Chapel, Mill and Local History
The bell chapel in Souňov is a small 19th-century building in a historicist style. Its square ground plan, pyramidal roof and lantern topped with an onion-shaped dome define its design. The term “historicist” describes a style that draws on earlier architectural periods. The chapel is therefore a tangible point of interest for anyone interested in local architecture.
The earliest surviving written mention of the village dates from 1559. The Souňovský, Nový, Malý mlýn mill is located in the cadastral area of Souňov on the Medenický stream, below the dam of a pond built to supply water to the mill. According to the date inscribed on a post in the mill structure, the mill was built in 1671 by Cistercians from the Sedlec Monastery. Since its reconstruction and revitalisation in 2001, the pond above the mill has been used for fish farming and fishing. Check access before visiting the mill site.
