Accommodation in Červené Janovice
Červené Janovice combines historic buildings and public art with landmarks in the landscape, such as Katlov and the Pohan rest area. When planning a stay, you can consider whether you are more interested in local history or in the pond and recreation area. These points of interest can help you assess whether the destination suits your travel interests. For your journey, the state road that runs through the village provides a clear point of reference.
Castle Remains and Château Architecture
A masonry bridge, ramparts, and other remains at Červené Janovice Château mark the site of a former water castle dating from the 14th century. A water castle is a castle whose defenses were connected to water. The term identifies the former complex, while the bridge and ramparts refer to specific architectural features.
According to various sources, the former fortress was converted into a magnificent château in 1600 by the stucco artist Karel Bretani from Vlach. Preserved Renaissance arcades in the château’s inner courtyard are now glazed. The local architectural history thus includes both the remains of the fortifications and distinctive features of the château’s design.
Church, Windows, and Public Art
During repairs to St. Martin’s Church in 1875, original Gothic stone window surrounds were discovered; the window behind the altar also had its original Gothic form. Window surrounds are stone frames around window openings. The date of discovery, material, and shape offer a specific insight into one detail of the church’s construction.
The consecration of the new church is another notable historical date: it took place on October 15, 1911, and was performed by Bishop Th. Dr. Josef Doubrava.
The statue of the young fisherman has stood at Na Městečku for more than 100 years. It was carved from Hořice sandstone in 1911, professionally restored in 2025, and returned to its pedestal. The location, material, and restoration history all contribute to the story of this public artwork.
A local tradition is also linked to a specific date: on Saturday, May 11, 2024, Sokol Červené Janovice organized the traditional Staročeské máje maypole procession in Janovice.
Katlov and the Pohan Rest Area
Katlov is a pond with a large recreation area and is one of the ponds in the surroundings of Červené Janovice. Visitors can fish at Katlov with Jakub Vágner. If you plan to take part, check availability and participation requirements before your trip.
The Pohan rest area offers a different focus: benches were installed there and an avenue of eight oak trees was planted in spring 2025. Katlov is associated with a pond and recreation area, while Pohan is a rest area with benches and newly planted trees.
