Pašinka – Climbing and Cultural History
Accommodation in Pašinka
Pašinka brings together climbing, cultural history, and an educational trail, offering a range of ways to plan a stay. If you are looking for a hotel in Pašinka, first consider which theme you want to shape your trip. For climbing enthusiasts, location, wall height, and number of routes are concrete points of reference. The fortress, the wayside shrine of the Holy Trinity, and the memorial lime tree represent different aspects of the area's history; the Polepy educational trail is intended for walkers and cyclists.
Climbing at Polepka
The Pašinka climbing area extends along both banks of the Polepka (Chotouchovský potok), about 700 m south of Pašinka. The Skála u Kohoutova mlýna sector has an 18 m-high rock face with 57 climbing routes. The location gives a general idea of where the Pašinka climbing area is, while the wall height and number of routes convey the scale of the Skála u Kohoutova mlýna sector. When planning a climb, you can therefore keep both a general location and the specific dimensions of a rock climbing sector in mind.
The Fortress and Local History
An update dated 23 October 2023 lists Pašinka Fortress as inaccessible. It is registered under number 47073/2–830 in the Central Register of Immovable Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic. The main surviving feature of the fortress is a three-storey square tower with a Baroque roof covered in wooden shingles. The register entry and the description of the tower offer two perspectives on the fortress: its monument status and a specific feature of its surviving architecture.
The wayside shrine of the Holy Trinity is freely accessible. It was built of rubble stone, probably in the early 19th century. A local legend links the site to the year 1349: the son of Vladik Vindervein, owner of the local fortress, and the daughter of Vladik Buzek of the Lipanský family are said to have taken their own lives there.
The difference between the two sites is important when planning a visit: the wayside shrine is freely accessible, while the fortress is listed as inaccessible in the 2023 update. Before travelling, check whether visits to the fortress have since become possible.
The Pašinka lime tree is also protected in connection with a cultural monument. Its aesthetic appearance, growth, and role as a dominant feature of the landscape are the reasons for its protection. Together with the wayside shrine of the Holy Trinity, the memorial lime tree forms a significant landscape-defining ensemble. The cultural heritage thus extends from an individual building and local tradition to a shared landscape.
After 1922, the painter Václav Radimský lived in Pašinka and drew inspiration from Polabí and the Kolín region. His connection to the area adds a link to painting and the landscapes from which he chose his subjects to the themes of buildings and monuments.
Polepy Educational Trail
The Polepy educational trail was designed for both walkers and cyclists. An earlier description characterizes it as easy, with almost no elevation changes. As trail conditions can change, check the current state before setting out.
