Příbram can be explored through a variety of themes: mining history, sacred architecture and trails through a diverse landscape. The city offers a range of themes to help you plan your stay—from the mining complex to nature trails along the river and through the forest.

Mining history in Příbram

On Březové Hory is the Hornické muzeum Příbram, an open-air mining museum. It includes the areas of the Vojtěch Mine, the Anenská Shaft and the Ševčinský Mine. By number of historic sites with exhibitions, it is the largest mining museum in the Czech Republic. The Vojtěch Mine includes a shaft building, an architectural and technical monument dating from 1870.

Museum visitors can ride a mine train both above ground and underground. Check the train’s operating details before your trip. This lets you explore the subject of mining not only through the facilities and exhibitions, but also by including a train ride in your plans.

Svatá Hora and historic buildings

Svatá Hora is a national cultural monument, an important Baroque complex and a pilgrimage site. It has stood about 590 m above the city for almost 350 years. The complex is open to the public for individual visits; check access information before your visit. A covered staircase leads up to Svatá Hora from the centre of Příbram. The route to the Coronation Altar is said to have 365 steps in total—so this figure should be understood as approximate.

Zámeček-Ernestinum is also part of the city’s architectural history and is one of the oldest preserved monuments in Příbram. Today it houses a wedding hall and the city gallery named after the prominent Czech photographer František Drtikol. The Church of St. James the Greater, also called kostel sv. Jakuba Staršího, is thought to be Příbram’s oldest urban architectural monument. The two names refer to the same church; its status as the oldest monument is considered likely, but not certain.

Trails, plants and wildlife in the Litavka forest park

If you want to focus on walks and nature, the Litavka forest park has a network of trails leading to woodland corners, floodplain meadows, the Litavka River and ponds hidden among the trees. On walks, you may spot rare globeflowers and irises. Kingfishers can occasionally be seen above the river. These sightings are not guaranteed, but they are among the natural features that make the park special.

The Naučná stezka lesoparku Litavka is an educational trail with twelve stops on the southwestern outskirts of Příbram, in the Litavka valley. It provides information about local fauna and flora, as well as places where silver ore was processed centuries ago. Children can complete a variety of fun activities along the way. The trail thus combines nature education with mining history, while the network of paths leads through different landscape features.

Padák educational trail and a cycling route towards Tok

The Naučná stezka Padák has a different focus: its eleven stops explain the functions of the landscape and forest in the ecosystem. The trail also has play and discovery features. It is approximately 2.7 km long. By contrast, the educational trail in the Litavka forest park focuses on local fauna and flora, as well as the historic processing of silver ore.

For cycling plans, the “From Příbram to Tok” route is another option. It starts in Orlov and follows cycle routes 8190 and 8258 towards Tok. At 865 m, Tok is the highest mountain in the Brdy. It is advisable to check current route conditions before setting out.
