Accommodation in Olbramovice
Olbramovice combines a layered architectural history with connections to nature and designated routes. When choosing the town as a destination, you can focus on historic architecture, the landscape, or a cycling or hiking tour. Local features offer different points of interest: the church brings together several building phases, the Sýpka is defined by its granary structure and fittings, and the educational trail is described by its number of stops and approximate length.
Church and granary: building phases on site
The Church of All Saints (Kostel Všech svatých) is originally Romanesque. The tower’s rubble masonry, its paired windows and the surrounding masonry of the nave have been preserved. The tower has paired windows divided by small columns; dressed granite edges can be found on the windows and the tower. During a renovation in 1866, the church received its current pseudo-Romanesque façade. Thus, the Romanesque origins and a later façade design inspired by the Romanesque style stand side by side—two distinct building phases at the same church.
The Sýpka in Olbramovice is a two-storey masonry granary with a hipped roof. It has Renaissance origins and was remodelled in the Baroque period. Traces of sgraffito decoration and ornamental window openings with illusionistic painting have been preserved on the building. The Renaissance core of the Dům | Sýpka building probably dates from the second half of the 16th century. The building is an integral part of the historic manor estate in the town. The Sýpka thus brings together its function as a granary, different historical building phases and preserved decorative features.
Sculptures and a medieval site
The Baroque Calvary sculpture group (Sousoší Kalvárie) in Olbramovice consists of a central granite balustrade in front of a long-vanished wooden cross and two sandstone statues: Mary and John the Evangelist stand on taller granite plinths. The year 1706 is inscribed on the plinth of the statue of Mary. This date therefore specifically relates to that plinth and adds a chronological reference to the description of the figures and materials.
Tvrziště Příkop also points to the town’s older history. The vanished medieval fortress, dating from the 13th to the 15th century, stood in a pond in the town centre. The only visible remains in the terrain are remnants of the pond dam on the eastern side of the site; these may have been part of the original fortifications. The fortress itself no longer exists, but its history can be understood here through its former location and the traces that remain in the terrain.
Landscape and routes around Olbramovice
A considerable part of Olbramovice lies within Džbány–Žebrák Nature Park, designated in 1996. The Podhrázský rybník Nature Reserve is also nearby. It is an ornithological area and an important resting place for migrating waterbirds and waders. The two natural areas differ in location: the nature park covers a considerable part of Olbramovice, while the nature reserve lies nearby.
For planning outings, a cycling route and an educational trail can be distinguished by their respective details. The Votice–Olbramovice cycling route was completed, opened for use and officially inaugurated on 15 September 2023. The Po stopách Sidonie Nádherné educational trail connects Olbramovice with Vrchotovy Janovice, has seven stops and is approximately 8.3 km long. Its approximate length and number of stops give this educational trail a concrete scale; the cycling route is defined by the connection between the two towns named.
