If you are planning a stay in Krhanice, there are several different themes to choose from: the history of military technology, the Podlešanský mlýn nature trail, sports facilities, and local architecture and history. When deciding where to go, you can consider whether you are mainly looking for a large collection, a route along the Sázava, sports facilities or historical connections.

Military Technology and the Nature Trail

The Lešany Military Technical Museum has more than 700 historic military vehicles and related equipment. The collections are displayed in ten halls, beneath six covered structures, and outdoors. Both the size of the collection and its varied display settings are therefore part of the museum’s focus; the exhibition is not limited to indoor halls. The museum is located between Krhanice and Lešany, so both place names are useful for orientation.

The Podlešanský mlýn nature trail starts at Krhanice railway station and follows a route with six stops. These include the railway station, the Sázava, the Lešany Military Technical Museum, Obory, the Ovčička and Beránek ponds, and the Podlešanský mlýn mill. The route crosses the Sázava. So, in addition to the museum, the stops also include a river, ponds and a mill. The trail offers a different perspective from the museum collection, passing several named cultural and natural landmarks. If you are looking for a route with specific points along the way during your stay, the nature trail provides a clearly defined option.

Krhanice railway station is part of the integrated transport system and is also the starting point for the nature trail. If you are travelling by train, it is advisable to check the latest timetable information, as transport arrangements may change.

Sports and Events

The multi-purpose sports area in Krhanice has playing courts for volleyball and badminton. It also includes a 33 × 15 m multi-purpose pitch for ball sports. For table tennis, the grounds include a 5 × 10 m area with a table-tennis table. The different dimensions help distinguish the playing areas by sport: the multi-purpose pitch is intended for ball sports, while the smaller area is designated for table tennis.

Children’s Day in Krhanice is a traditional event. Noc s Andersenem (Andersen Night) was held for the 13th time. If you would like to combine your stay with a celebration, check the latest event dates before making plans.

Architecture and Local History

The property at No. 22 lies west of Krhanice on the banks of the Sázava. It is a Neoclassical complex with decorative stucco above the entrance; part of the site is in Krhanice. The Chapel of St Joseph with the Infant Jesus in Krhanice was repaired in 2022.

One historical connection dates back to 1228, when half of Krhanice belonged to a monastery. This year provides a specific historical reference point for the town, while the chapel’s repair in 2022 marks a more recent date. The Neoclassical style of the property at No. 22 adds an architectural focus to these two distinct historical periods.

The Sázava also connects different local landmarks without making them a single destination: the nature trail crosses the river, the property at No. 22 is on its banks, and the ruins of Zbořený Kostelec can be seen above the Sázava in the area around Krhanice.
