Location between a hollow and ridges

Nová Telib lies in the Dolnojizerská tabule on a plateau at the end of the valley of the Žerčický potok. The village is also situated in a broad hollow above the source area of the Žerčický potok. The settlement lies between mostly wooded, rounded ridges. The municipal area of Nová Telib lies on the southern slopes of the Chloumecký hřbet. To the north, the Telib, at 322 metres above sea level, is the highest point near Nová Telib. The surrounding Chlum Nature Park gives the village a peaceful setting of coniferous and deciduous forests. For orientation, the plateau, hollow, wooded ridges, and Telib serve as distinct landmarks in the landscape.

Chapel, bell tower, and local history

The protected monument ensemble includes a wooden fork-type bell tower and a niche chapel. The bell tower stands about two metres east of the chapel, which is located beneath a mature linden tree. The niche chapel may date from the 16th century; however, the expressiveness of its sculptures points to a date of origin around the middle of the 18th century. The possible 16th-century origin and the indication of a later date for the sculptures are two distinct points of reference in time. A new bell weighing 18 kilograms was cast for the bell tower and dedicated to Saint Peter.

Several timber-framed vernacular buildings remain part of the traditional village scene. The oldest owner of the original settlement of Nová Telib is documented in writing for the years 1378 and 1390. An edition of the traditional celebration “HÁZENÍ KOZLA” is also recorded for 17 July 2021. Thus, the village scene brings together building styles, settlement history, and a dated festive occasion as distinct cultural references.

Hiking trails through the landscape

A blue-marked hiking trail runs through Mladá Boleslav, Holé Vrchy, Dolánky, Kladěruby, Nová Telib, and Lhotky. In the summit area, the trail passes through the nature park and along the slopes of the Chloumecký hřbet. The sequence of places shows that the marked route connects Nová Telib with several other named places; the references to the nature park and ridge describe the landscape through which it runs.

A list published in 2011 also includes the mountain biking route “MB_Nova Telib_Jabkenice_MB”. It starts in Mladá Boleslav and runs through Plazy, Nová Telib, Domousnice, Jabkenice, Dražice, and Krnsko. Check the route details before relying on this entry for navigation today.
