Nebužely offers a range of themes to consider when planning a trip: the Kokořínský důl Nature Reserve, historic churches and farmsteads, and cycling and hiking trails. The natural landscape and local history appeal to different interests; the routes complement them with specific information about their course, surface and distance. This makes it possible to decide in advance whether the focus of your trip will be the landscape, architecture or a cycling tour.

Nature Reserve and Landscape

The Kokořínský důl Nature Reserve includes Nebužely among its cadastral areas. It encompasses a geomorphologically varied sandstone complex with predominantly forested habitats, canyon-like valleys, rock steps and smaller rock formations. Weathering features include the Pokličky and other formations created by the weathering of iron-rich sandstone. The terrain’s diversity is reflected in its varied features: forests and valleys stand alongside rock steps and smaller rock formations, while the Pokličky add striking examples of weathering. This natural landscape offers a distinct focus alongside Nebužely’s historic buildings.

Churches, Mill and Historic Farmsteads

The Protestant church in Nebužely is an 18th-century church building. Originally, it was a Toleration prayer house for a Reformed, or Helvetic, religious community; it was completed in 1786. Its tower was added in 1864. The dates mark two distinct phases of construction: the church building was completed first, and the tower was added decades later. Today, the Protestant church serves as a depot for the Mělník District Museum.

The Catholic church is a single-nave rural Baroque building with an irregular cruciform floor plan. “Single-nave” describes a church interior with one main nave; the floor plan adds a distinctive feature to the architectural description. Inside is a notable marble tombstone for Anna Hrušková of Březno. A statue was erected in front of a church in Nebužely in 1884.

The historic farmsteads also give local history a distinctive character. These monumental, representative farmsteads are sometimes called “selskými paláci,” meaning “peasant palaces,” because of their elaborate design. The nickname draws attention to the farmsteads’ design and representative character.

The former Kroužek water mill brings together architectural and technological history. Its origins are thought to date to the 16th century. Around the turn of the 20th century, it was converted into a brick building equipped with a Francis turbine. The mill thus combines a probable early origin with a much later technological conversion. It lies directly on a red-marked hiking trail and cycle route 142.

Cycling Routes and Rail

Cycle route 8170 runs from Kroužek via Nebužely and Řepín to Řepínský Důl. It is described as a moderately difficult route on a paved road and is suitable for all types of bicycles. The difficulty rating, road surface and stated suitability answer different questions: they provide guidance on difficulty, surface and bicycle choice.

The nearest red-marked hiking trail and cycle route 142 are about 2.5 km from Nebužely in the direction of Kokořín. For your specific trip, it is advisable to check the current trail markings, as routes may change. This means the location of the trails at the former Kroužek mill and their distance from Nebužely remain two separate points of reference.

Nebužely also has a railway stop and a freight loading area. For a specific rail journey, it is advisable to check the current timetable, as services may change.
