Miskovice: Views, Nature and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Miskovice
The municipal landscape of Miskovice is gently hilly and characterized by scattered groves. Its elevations range from 270 meters above sea level at the edge of the Polabí lowlands to 450 meters at the Vysoká viewpoint hill. This range describes the difference in elevation between the edge of the lowlands and Vysoká within the municipal landscape.
Nature and Landscape
The pseudokarst depressions of Miskovice lie 0.5 to 1 kilometer north of Miskovice. They preserve the last remaining pseudokarst features in this area. This makes them a geological rarity whose significance lies in the preservation of these last examples.
The Rybníček u Hořan National Natural Monument is the only natural site in the Czech Republic where the endangered dense waterweed (Groenlandia densa) is found. At Rybníček u Hořan, visitors are advised not to enter the water or pick plants; fish farming is prohibited there. Follow the rules in effect at the site.
Views and Cultural Heritage
The observation tower on Vysoká is 38 meters tall. The observation platform is 25 meters above the ground and can be reached by climbing 144 steps. From the top, panoramic views extend across the surrounding forests, fields and villages. If you plan to visit the tower, check the current visiting conditions in advance.
The wooded summit of Vysoká is also home to the ruins of a hermitage known as Belveder, with the Chapel of Saint John the Baptist, dating from 1697. The ruins were entered in the Central Register of Immovable Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic in May 1958. The observation tower and Belveder thus represent different aspects of the same ridge: panoramic views and a historic architectural monument.
Near Bylany, the Feldekův water mill complex includes the mill building, a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, farm buildings, a barn and a stone perimeter wall. These various features form an architectural ensemble, so the complex is not limited to the main mill building.
The spring of Saint Adalbert lies between Bylany and Přítoky. It is surrounded by a brick structure with a statue and is fed by a 180-meter-long flooded tunnel. In the past, the spring supplied water to all 16 fountains in Kutná Hora as well as to numerous townhouses.
A preserved lime kiln stands about 50 meters north of the road between Mezholezy and Bylany. As a technical monument, it is connected with the region’s long tradition of limestone quarrying and lime production. Alongside religious and architectural landmarks, it also highlights the region’s history of work.
The Neolithic settlement of Bylany is an important site in Czech prehistoric archaeology. However, no traces of the prehistoric settlement are visible on the ground today at the archaeological site. Its significance therefore lies in its archaeological importance, not in a settlement that can be seen today.
The Tvrz in Miskovice has a Renaissance core dating from the late 16th century. Some original Renaissance window surrounds have been preserved. These features indicate both the date of the core and a surviving architectural detail.
Hiking and Cycling
The southern loop of the Stříbrná stezka educational trail is an easy 9.5-kilometer route suitable for families with children. Its length and difficulty rating give you practical guidance for planning a hike; trail conditions may change.
The CKH7 cycling route runs from Miskovice via Na Obci to Škvárovna and follows a green-marked KČT route. It is 33.1 kilometers long, with a possible variation of ±5 percent. Between Mezholezy and Miskovice, the route includes a steep descent on a narrow road. Take this section into account when choosing your route, and check the current route before setting out.
