Milčice combines village history with a landscape where ponds, trees, and paths each add their own character. On Milčická náves, the farmhouse of writer František Jan Vavák takes center stage; the Milčice exhibition and local trees complete the historical picture. There are also ponds, a cycle path to Tatce, and a connection to the Cesta Česka pilgrimage route. If you want to explore local history, cultural interpretation, and the landscape during your trip, Milčice offers specific points of interest for each of these topics.

Village History on Milčická náves

Milčická náves has long been the center of village life and preserves remarkable historic sites. The most significant is the farmhouse of the scribe František Jan Vavák. Vavák was a local village judge and chronicler, as well as an important folk writer. This combination of village office, chronicle writing, and authorship makes the farmhouse a notable reference point for local history.

The regional project “Tajuplná místa Podlipanska” also leads to Milčice: the village is stop 8, and an information board introduces Vavák and a local legend. Visitors can learn about both a figure from local history and a story from the village. Milčice is also on the Cesta Česka pilgrimage route, another named route connection for visitors interested in pilgrimage paths.

The Exhibition and Planning Your Visit

The Milčice exhibition is a permanent display about Milčice in the former “Síň tradic.” It is open to the public annually on May 8. If you would like to visit at another time, arrange your visit in advance with the Milčice municipal office and the exhibition’s caretaker, Eva Vyhlídalová. Take this arrangement into account when planning your trip so you can coordinate your preferred visit date accordingly.

Trees and the Landscape of Ponds

On the edge of the village, on the road to Pečky, stands the protected “Památná hrušeň,” a common pear tree (Pyrus communis L.) planted around 1900. Another named tree is the “Havlíčkova lípa”: it was designated a memorial tree on November 4, 1999, and a memorial stone stands right beside it. In Milčice, you can therefore encounter different notable trees: a protected pear tree with a long planting history and a designated memorial lime tree.

Behind Milčice’s large pond, two smaller, elongated ponds were created after 1985 in former peat extraction pits. Their flooding created refuges for rare animal and plant species. The ponds thus connect the history of peat extraction with the creation of habitats for rare species.

Javorová alej also offers practical amenities for spending time outdoors: it has benches, waste bins, a bicycle rack, and an information board. The board provides information about funding for the avenue’s renewal and the nearby Natura 2000 site. The benches offer a place to take a break; check the condition of the visitor facilities before your visit.

Cycle Path and Local Tradition

The Milčice–Tatce cycle path is 750 meters long and runs from the municipal football pitch to Tatce railway station. There are three rest areas along the route, with tables, benches, bicycle racks, and waste bins. Its length and named endpoints provide specific guidance if you would like to include a short cycling connection in your trip plans. Milčice is also on the Cesta Česka pilgrimage route, offering two distinct points of interest: a cycle path with stated endpoints and a connection to a pilgrimage route.

A dated glimpse of a local spring event comes from 2025: on March 20, MŠ Milčice held the Vynášení Morany event for the public. The procession ended with the traditional burning of the Morana at a bonfire by the pond. The procession and traditional custom offer a concrete picture of that event day.
