Doubravice: Geology and historical sites
Accommodation in Doubravice
If you are looking for a hotel in Doubravice, its geological and cultural-historical highlights can help you get a sense of the surrounding area. Pačíska combines natural rock outcrops with visible remains of a medieval fortification; other historical and cultural destinations are nearby.
Geology and access at Pačíska
Pačíska is a 504 m-high hill south of Doubravice, in the cadastral area of Doubravice u Sedlčan. Near Pačíska are a former quarry and natural outcrops of metamorphic rocks from the Paleozoic Sedlčany-Krásná Hora island zone. Crystalline limestones are exposed in the old quarry; they may belong to the Zbirov Formation. Metasiltstones, quartzites, metagreywackes, and conglomerates are also present.
The Pačíska geological site is considered worthy of protection because it is one of the few occurrences of the youngest strata of the Central Bohemian island zone. The geological sequence continues eastward in isolated elevations near Šiberný, south of Doubravice. Clearly visible remains of a medieval fortification can be seen at the summit of Pačíska.
Access to Pačíska is off-trail; the site is more than 250 m from the road. Check local land access before setting out on foot.
Fortifications and landmarks
The fortified site of Ústupenice is in the Doubravice area, about 3 km west of the village. The oval site is surrounded by a ditch on its north and east sides. The foundations of a rectangular building, with remnants of walls, are visible on the site; it was probably a palas. While the remains at Pačíska are on the summit, the ditch and building foundations are the visible landmarks at Ústupenice.
The Šiberný monument stands at the foot of the lookout hill, on the side facing Pačíska.
Museums in the area
In the Doubravice area, the Vysoký Chlumec open-air museum preserves rural buildings, water-powered technical structures, and small religious monuments, most of which date from the 18th to the early 20th century. Visitors can see nine buildings in total; seven are accessible through indoor or special exhibitions, or a seasonal exhibition. Check whether the seasonal exhibition is open before your visit.
In the Doubravice area, the Sedlčany Town Museum traces the development of the region from prehistoric times to the recent past through finds, documents, and objects. The museum website was last updated in 2022; the museum is accessible, and its permanent exhibition occupies seven halls on two floors. Check current opening hours before your visit.
The choice between the two museums depends on your interests: Vysoký Chlumec preserves rural architectural and technical forms, while Sedlčany uses its collections to trace the region’s development over a long period.
