The presumed origin and the first written reference are two different points in time: one refers to the presumed founding, the other to a written record.

The church, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1998. The present building was constructed between 1868 and 1872 on the site of a demolished church. The earlier church was probably early Gothic and dated to the second half of the 13th century; it is documented in 1352. This means Dolní Hbity brings together 19th-century building history and an older predecessor whose date is only tentative.

Hiking and cycling

Three marked hiking trails pass through the municipal area. One specific route was part of an organized hike in 2025: it covered 6.7 kilometres from the Dolní Hbity–Nepřejov crossroads via Horní Líšnice and Dolní Líšnice to Maková hora. Past hiking events are also part of the local events calendar. Pochod Dolnohbitskem napříč took place in Dolní Hbity on 28 September 2023 and was described as the fourth edition.
