Explore Říčany through its historic buildings, geological features and variety of routes. You can choose different focuses for your stay: from surviving traces at the church and Marian Column to routes designed as a nature trail, a walk through the solar system or a geocaching game.

Castle Spur and Historic Buildings

The ruins of Říčany Castle stand on a spur above Mlýnský rybník and the former Lázeňský rybník on the Říčanský potok. A spur is a projecting section of terrain; here, the term describes the shape of the land where the castle is situated.

The Church of St Peter and Paul preserves Gothic masonry, the base of a former tower with a groin vault, and remnants of frescoes dating from around 1400. Both architectural features and traces of painting have survived. The Marian Column of Říčany dates from 1699 and is considered the second-oldest Marian column in Bohemia. It adds a monument with its own precisely dated history to the town’s historic buildings.

Geology at the Říčany Geopark

The geopark displays large specimens of granite, basalt, sandstone and limestone, along with fossils and a petrified tree. Visitors can also pan for garnets, explore a cave and discover fossils. The different rock types and fossils are presented alongside activities that let you explore geological topics in your own way.

Nature Trail, Solar System or Geocaching Game

The Říčansko nature trail begins in Říčany, by the ruins of Říčany Castle. It is about 9 km long and has 18 stops. You can explore it on foot, by bike, in sections or with children. As trail conditions can change, it is advisable to check them before setting out.

The Astrostezka Říčany connects the geopark and the museum with a walk through a scale model of the solar system. It can be walked or cycled at any time. Its focus is the solar system, while the nature trail, with its stops, offers a different option for a longer route.

The geocaching game “Za pokladem do středověkých Říčan” (In Search of Treasure in Medieval Říčany) begins at Říčany Castle in the town centre. It is aimed primarily at parents with children aged 8 and over, and follows an approximately 2 km route through busier and quieter parts of town. At around 2 km, this route is shorter than the approximately 9 km nature trail; the different focuses also help you compare them: a geocaching game here, 18 stops there.

Plan Your Journey

Jureček can be reached on foot, by bicycle or by car. You can also get to Říčany by bus or train. If you plan to use public transport, check the current timetable before travelling. The different routes offer clear alternatives for planning your outings: a route with stops, a walk through the scale-model solar system, or a game along a shorter, specified route.
