Lukovë: Beaches, Lakes and Historic Trails
Accommodation in Lukovë
Lukovë is a coastal destination with several distinct points of interest. Small, quiet beaches and surrounding forests shape the coastal landscape; natural lakes, historic trails, churches and olive culture add to the picture. If you’re looking for a hotel in Lukovë, these themes can help you decide what to focus on during your stay: relaxing on the beach, observing nature, hiking a trail section or exploring cultural history.
Coast, Beaches and Lakes
The coastal landscape of Lukovë includes quiet beaches and surrounding forests. The beaches are small, surrounded by greenery and suited to holidays and relaxation. Nearby Bunec Beach lies in a quiet bay between Lukovë and Piqeras, where you can swim and unwind. Seasonal beach services and conditions may change. Check in advance anything that matters for your visit. In the village, roads connect the houses with the beaches.
The Lukovë Lakes comprise two small natural lakes formed by water springs near the coast. Mediterranean vegetation, along with olive and pine trees, surrounds the lakes. During the colder months, the lakes are a habitat for migratory birds; their presence may vary. The lakes are located near the national road connecting Himara and Saranda and are accessible for peaceful nature stops.
Hiking Sections and Historic Trails
One section of the Southern Coastal Trail runs from Lukovë via Shpella Beach and Shën Vasil to Nivicë. A route description published in 2022 rates it as moderate and gives a total length of 14.7 kilometres and a total duration of 4:30 hours. These figures refer to the entire section. Trail conditions may change; check them before setting out on a hike.
Another section of the Southern Coastal Trail runs from Borsh via Piqeras and Bunec Beach to Lukovë. Remains of paved paths can be found there; they once connected the village with the sea. These historic path remains differ from the described section via Shpella Beach, Shën Vasil and Nivicë: here, the focus is on the former connection between the village and the coast. In the old part of the village, a paved alley passes historic stone houses on the way into Lukovë.
Churches and Olive Culture
The Church of Shën e Premtes stands on a hill in Lukovë and is designated a Category I cultural monument. It is a basilica-type church. The category indicates its designation as a cultural monument, while the basilica type refers to its architectural form. Visitor access may change, so check before visiting. The Church of Shën Thanasit is located in the centre of Lukovë. The two churches are therefore at different landmarks: one on a hill, the other in the centre of the village.
Nëna Farm is a family-run agritourism business in Lukovë specialising in traditional olive products. The farm produces extra virgin olive oil from local olive varieties, including olives from trees over 100 years old. This adds local olive culture to the themes of your trip, alongside the coast, nature and trails. Business and product details may change; check for current information if you plan to include them in your arrangements.
