Those choosing Fushë-Kruje for a trip can focus on a range of themes, from archaeological history and places of remembrance to nature activities and mineral baths. These themes can help guide your trip planning and hotel choice, without requiring any single reason for your stay to determine your plans.

Albanopolis and historic places of remembrance

The ruins of Albanopolis lie on a hill along the southern stretch of the national road between Krujë and Fushë-Kruje. Archaeological research links Albanopolis to settlement by the Albanian tribe from the 4th century BC onward. A 90-meter-long stone wall with three towers survives from the city; it was also divided into the Acropolis, the Middle City and the Small City. Here, historical interpretations of settlement meet tangible remains of the city’s layout.

The tunnels on Zgërdhesh Hill represent a much more recent period. About ten tunnels were built between 1945 and 1990 as part of a communist military base. They are located in the administrative unit of Fushë Krujë, about five kilometers from the center of Fushë-Kruje. Their construction period is markedly different from the settlement history associated with Albanopolis.

The Tekke of Fushë-Kruje is also part of the area’s history; it is associated with the year 1562 and Father Ali. A modern place of remembrance is the 2.85-meter-high statue of George W. Bush, depicted with his left hand raised. A plaque at the base records his visit to Albania in 2007 and describes him as a great friend of the Albanians. The statue was unveiled on July 6, 2011, and is said to have been erected at the spot where Bush gave a public address in 2007.

Traditional crafts from the Krujë region are part of its broader cultural context: copperwork, woolwork and silversmithing, qeleshe making, woodcarving, embroidery and weaving. These themes add a wider perspective on the region’s cultural heritage to the area’s historic sites.

Nature and trails

Rrepet e Arramerasit in Fushë-Kruje is listed among the natural monuments of Krujë in a 2025 report by the Durrës Prefecture. A national tourism database dated 2017 lists the Selvie of Fushë-Kruje as a Category III natural monument and a resource for nature tourism. Both listings offer different points of reference if you are interested in natural monuments and how the landscape is classified.

By Decision No. 60 of January 26, 2022, Qafë-Shtamë was designated a nature park in protected area category IV. Check the current protected-area classification before your trip. Activities in the nature park include walking, hiking, photography, picnicking, observing local flora and fauna, and exploring mountain trails. The activities available may vary depending on the weather, conditions and local administration.

The ascent along the Skanderbeg Trail in Qafë-Shtamë is about 3.71 kilometers long and takes approximately two and a half hours. Lake Peak reaches an elevation of 1,725 meters. When planning your route, bear in mind that trail conditions and practical accessibility may vary by season.

Thermal baths and travel information

Llixha Bilaj is a family-run thermal bath in Fushë-Kruje offering natural mineral baths. If the baths are an important factor in your travel plans, check current information about what is available before visiting. The thermal bath offers a different focus from the archaeological sites and activities in the nature park.

The road layout can also help with orientation: the road to Krujë passes through the Kamëz intersection and over the Tapizë Bridge. After leaving the Tirana–Lezhë highway, it turns toward Fushë-Kruje. This sequence describes the route without specifying a travel time. Together with the area’s varied historical and landscape features, it provides a factual basis for planning your own trip.
