Discover Tåstrup: Farm History and Historic Traces
Accommodation in Tåstrup
Tåstrup is a small cluster of farmsteads. This gives trip planning a cultural and historical focus: preserved farm buildings, an exhibition about life in the 19th century, and archaeological and more recent historical traces. A cycling tour also passes through the village. If you’re looking for a hotel for a stay in Tåstrup, you can base your choice on what brings you here: are you primarily interested in rural architectural history, depictions of everyday life in the past, or incorporating Tåstrup into a longer cycling tour?
Farm History and Cultural Landscape
In the planning framework of Stevns Municipality, Tåstrup is designated as a cultural landscape area. In addition to this classification of the village, individual historic buildings are specifically listed. One example is the brick-built manure shed at Druebjerggård.
The building, dating from around 1900, has been preserved there; as an agricultural outbuilding, it represents a different type of preserved farm architecture from a dwelling house. For anyone interested in the architectural history of farms, it offers a specific point of reference beyond a farmhouse.
Trines Hus: Farmhouse and Exhibition
Trines Hus is a listed farmhouse dating from 1775, named after its former owner, Trine. A family has preserved the house in its original form for several generations. The authentic exhibition in the house illustrates how ordinary people lived in the 19th century. The house and exhibition relate to two different periods: the building dates from the 18th century, while the way of life depicted is from the 19th century.
This provides two different examples for comparing historic farm buildings: a farmhouse dating from 1775 and the brick-built manure shed from around 1900.
Trines Hus has been opened to tourists and other interested visitors. Visiting arrangements are stated as covering the Easter holidays through the autumn holidays, with visits by appointment outside this period. Please check before travelling whether these arrangements are still in effect.
Archaeological and More Recent History
Finely shaped oak posts were found just outside Tåstrup around 1990. They date from the Viking Age, about 1,000 years ago, and were probably used to build a bridge across a body of water. The possible use in a bridge gives the find its own archaeological significance.
Another historical topic takes us back to the Second World War. On 11 April 1944, an American B-17 aircraft had to make an emergency landing near Tåstrup, 900 metres southwest of Myrekær farm. The two stories represent markedly different periods: an archaeological find from the Viking Age and an event in the 20th century recorded to the exact day.
Cycling Through Tåstrup
The 25-kilometre “Elverhøj” cycling tour runs along Tåstrupvej through Tåstrup. This provides a practical option for cyclists who want to include the village in a tour, alongside its historical attractions. If you include the route in your travel plans, check current route conditions before setting out by bike.
