Strøby Egede can be explored through several different interests: river landscapes, walking and cycling paths, the beach and archaeological history. If you are looking for a hotel, it helps to decide on the focus of your stay before travelling. Paths run along Tryggevælde Å, where non-motorised boats, canoes and kayaks are permitted on one section of the river.

Natural Area, Park and Beach

Tryggevælde Ådal is designated as a Natura 2000 area and is therefore under special protection. Solgårdsparken is located in Strøby Egede in northern Stevns; the park covers 20 Tønder Land and is laid out in a romantic style. The beach in Strøby Egede has shallow bathing water, making it suitable for small children. For families with small children, the shallow water is an important consideration when choosing a destination.

Walking and Cycling Paths

The Hjertesti in Strøby Egede is 4.3 km long and starts at the Solgårdsparken car park. This starting point helps with orientation and also makes the park a clearly named landmark for the route. Another route option starts at Kirchenweg by the church in Strøby Egede. From there, paths branch off north and south along Tryggevælde Å; they pass through scenic countryside from Stolpehuse in the south to Valløby in the north. This gives you two different options on foot: a route with a stated length and a river route with two directions and named endpoints.

The 25 km cycling route “Tryggevældeåens opland” passes through Strøby Egede, among other places, and runs along Køge Bugt via Vejs Ende, Strøby and Ranes Banke, as well as Vallø Slot, to Vedskølle. It is considerably longer than the Hjertesti and differs in its mode of transport. This comparison can help you assess the excursions by length and activity.

Water and Archaeological History

There is a geographically defined rule for activities on the water: non-motorised boats, canoes and kayaks may be used on the section of Tryggevælde Å from its mouth at Køge Bugt to Tryggevældegården south of Hårlev. The endpoint is at Faksevej 69, 4652 Hårlev. These boats are not permitted on the tributaries of Tryggevælde Å.

About 7,000 years ago, eight people were buried at the site of present-day Strøby Egede; they included four women and four men aged between 0 and 50. In the mass grave found in Strøby Egede, the women were on the southern side and the men on the northern side.
