Discover Henne: Nature, Hiking and History
Accommodation in Henne
If you’re looking for a hotel in Henne, you can start by considering what you’d like your trip to focus on: hiking, coastal scenery, wildlife watching, golf or history. Henne Stationsby lies in an attractive landscape less than 10 kilometres from the Danish west coast. The different destinations and activities give you practical ideas for planning your excursions.
Hiking and scenery
At 64 metres above sea level, Blåbjerg is Denmark’s highest dune. A marked yellow hiking route runs for 8 kilometres from Blåbjerg to Henne Strand. It can be shortened to circular routes of 1.5 or 3 kilometres. This gives you three clearly different route lengths to choose from: both circular routes are shorter than the route to Henne Strand, with the 1.5-kilometre option being the shortest. Check the local signs before setting out.
Nearby, Henne Strand has a broad white-sand beach. Just behind it are dunes, heathland and forest. The beach has been awarded the Badepunkt seal and has toilets and rescue equipment. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer season. As seasonal facilities can change, it’s a good idea to check the latest visitor information before your visit.
Banehaven offers a different focus for planning your stay: the park is in the centre of Henne Stationsby and has a nature playground, a barbecue shelter and picnic tables. These facilities may change, so check the arrangements in advance if you’re planning a specific visit.
Birdwatching and golf
Nearby Filsø offers opportunities for birdwatching from its bird towers. Possible sightings include geese, ducks, wading birds, white-tailed eagles and ospreys. Sightings are seasonal and not guaranteed. The nearby Kløvbakken viewpoint overlooks Filsø and offers good opportunities to spot red deer. The two locations therefore offer different wildlife-watching experiences: birds at Filsø and red deer at Kløvbakken viewpoint.
Henne Golf Club has an 18-hole golf course in natural surroundings, with fairways set in open terrain. From the club’s highest points, you can enjoy panoramic views over Filsø, Blåbjerg Plantage and the North Sea. The combination of golf and panoramic scenery makes this another option to consider when planning your trip.
History, crafts and dining
A settlement was founded nearby around the year 700, northwest of the site of today’s Henne Kirke. During the Viking Age, it developed into one of West Jutland’s most important Viking settlements. Henne Kirke itself was built in the second half of the 12th century. The Henneby Høje provide another point of historical interest: the ten Bronze Age burial mounds lie in a row near Blåbjerg Plantage.
Glasgården Henne Kirkeby is located nearby in a village school dating from the 19th century. The workshop designs and produces handmade glass art. A shop and an open workshop give visitors the opportunity to experience glass art. As production details and visitor arrangements may change, it’s best to check the arrangements before your visit.
Henne Stationskro also combines history with a contemporary dining offer. Its story began in 1903, when the railway reached Henne. Today, Stationskro offers Ă la carte service and takeaway food; the availability of these services may change. Henne brings together a variety of travel interests, from trails and scenic views to cultural history, glass art and dining.
