Gedsted: Hiking at Paradiset and Cycling
Accommodation in Gedsted
When planning an outing in Gedsted, you can choose from a range of activities: trails near Paradiset, views across Louns Bredning, historical traces and cycling routes. A marked circular trail, a route to the fjord and cycling routes offer different ways to explore the area during your visit.
Hiking at Paradiset
The Paradiset routes start at a rest area on Viborg-Løgstørvejen. The trail at Paradiset in Gedsted is open to pedestrians on private property. Temporary closures may apply during hunting periods. One route leads from Paradiset to the fjord at the mouth of the Lerkenfeldt Å.
The Lerkenfeld Ă… Valley Trail is a marked circular route of about 10 km that includes Gedsted. In addition to this loop, you can choose a route from Paradiset to the fjord at the mouth of the Lerkenfeldt Ă…. The two options therefore differ in route format and named destination.
The nearest bus stop is Vesterbro in Gedsted. From there, it is about a 25-minute walk to the starting point of the Paradiset hiking routes; for part of the way, the pedestrian route runs alongside a busy road. Factor in this walk, including the section alongside the road, when planning to travel by bus.
Views and landscape
At Paradiset, there is a viewpoint overlooking Louns Bredning, the Louns Peninsula with Alstrup Church, as well as Salling and Lundø. The meadow at Paradiset, towards Louns Bredning, is seabed uplifted since the Stone Age. The landscape thus combines expansive views with a geological dimension spanning thousands of years.
The shallow waters of Louns Bredning attract many wading and water birds. Nature enthusiasts can appreciate the views, birdlife and uplifted seabed as distinct features of the landscape.
Historical traces
The sunken lane at Paradiset was used in the past to drive livestock onto the meadow. Its former function connects the lane with the agricultural use of the land.
Remains of Second World War trenches are visible on the cliff at Paradiset. Together with the sunken lane, they reveal two distinct historical connections: the former driving of livestock and traces of the war.
Cycling and walks
The Lerkenfeld cycling tour can start in Gedsted. Cycle Route 12 runs from Gedsted across the Lerkenfeld stream towards Gl. Ullits. Gedsted is listed as a possible starting point for the first tour; Route 12 also includes a stream crossing and a specific direction of travel. This distinction helps you choose between the two routes.
The area is also a starting point for walks in nature, including routes to the trail and bridges along the Lerkenfeld Å and to “Paradiset ved Gedsted”. As route connections can change, check the current route when planning one of these walks.
