When looking for a hotel in Vesløs, you can organise your interests around a range of themes: the town’s church history, the old Bygholm Mølle and routes in the surrounding area. This makes it possible to decide in advance whether architecture, history, nature or cycling should take priority in your travel plans.

Churches and local history

Vesløs Church and Vesløs Free Church Congregation offer different historical points of interest. Vesløs Church is a Romanesque ashlar church dating from the 12th century. Its original nave and chancel have been preserved. The altar is also notable for its construction: it is made of granite ashlars and has a monolithic mensa, meaning a slab made from a single stone. A reliquary tomb lies at its centre.

Vesløs Free Church was built in the summer and autumn of 1911 and inaugurated on 25 October that year. Before then, the Hannæs congregation had held services for 15 to 20 years in the meeting house in Vesløs and in the schools in Tømmerby and Arup. The church’s altarpiece depicts Jesus healing the blind man on the road to Jericho. Chr. Andersen painted it in Thisted in 1912. Together, the construction date, places of worship and subject of the painting offer insight into different aspects of local religious history.

Bygholm Mølle and visitor access

Bygholm Mølle is an old Dutch windmill and serves as a place to learn about the history and nature of the surrounding area. It has been a landmark of the Vejlerne for more than 100 years. When planning a visit, it is important to note that the mill is open mainly to groups by prior arrangement. On Vejlernes Day, it was open to the public on 1 June 2024 and 6 June 2026. These dates are specific examples of public access as part of the event; they do not represent regular opening hours.

Fjord, nature and cycling routes

Nearby, Tømmerby Fjord is part of the Vejlerne Nature Reserve. Also in the area, the Rødbofælled walking route in Østerild Klitplantage comes close to the edge of the reserve. The Nordthy Route follows Tømmerby Fjord and passes through Vesløs. This means there are different types of routes to choose from: a walking route near the edge of the nature reserve and a cycling route that runs through the town.

The signposted regional cycle route 17, the Nordthy Route, runs from Bulbjerg via Thisted to Nystrup Plantation. After crossing the Vesløs–Frøstrup road, it follows a shared cycling and walking path that can be used in both directions. The path runs along the former railway trackbed of the Thisted–Fjerritslev line. If you are planning a ride, check the current route, as infrastructure can change. Storks are also part of the area’s natural history: Vesløs was once one of the few places in Denmark with nesting storks, but this no longer happens regularly.

Vesløs in the wider region

In the wider region, Hannæs stretches from the ferry landing at Feggesund through Vesløs and Frøstrup to Bulbjerg. This broader geographical context complements the picture of the churches and routes, without changing the specific visitor access arrangements at individual locations.
