Tissing Vig: Wetland and birdlife

Tissinghuse is located near Tissing Vig and is particularly suited to a trip focused on natural surroundings, birdwatching and paths by the water. Tissing Vig is entirely part of Natura 2000 site No. 28, “Agger Tange, Nissum Bredning, Skibsted Fjord and Agerø”. The area has also developed into an important bird habitat for several species of ducks and waders. The bird habitat, causeway path and circular route each offer a different focus within the nature theme.

One of the main aims of the wetland project was to restore Tissing Vig as a shallow freshwater lake surrounded by meadows. The vision combines open water and meadows; alongside birdlife, the development of the landscape is also a theme of the area.

Paths by the water

A walking path runs along the southern dike of Tissing Vig and leads from Tissinghuse to Nørå. On the causeway towards Søndervig, a birdwatching hide is located along the walking path through Tissing Vig. The “Serupsvej” III circular route is 4 km long and takes about an hour; it runs along the beach and on small roads. This gives you an idea of the route’s length, approximate duration and surface, while the dike path is defined by its route from Tissinghuse to Nørå. Route details may change; check the current route description before setting out.

The section of the coastal route between Nees and Thissinghus passes via Thissingvig and Ă…lekistevej to the water, then continues onto Serupsvej. The places and roads mentioned help you find your way along this section of the route. The distance of four kilometres and approximate duration of one hour refer to the circular route, not to the entire coastal route section.

Paddling and practical information

Paddleboards and sit-on-top kayaks can be booked through VIF Mors. After booking, you will receive a code for the container; you can then head out onto the fjord with the board or kayak.

At Tissinghuse on the southwestern side of Tissing Vig, there is a larger car park and a fishing pier. A little west of the general store in Thissinghus, there is a shelter and tent site at Thissinghus Havn. Availability may change; check in advance if you are planning to stay overnight there.

Trading post on the Limfjord

Tissinghuse is an old trading post on the Limfjord. After the Commercial Freedom Act was passed in 1857, the settlement developed around a general store. A marina for pleasure craft was established in Tissinghuse from 1973; before that, the site was a landing place or ferry crossing. The trading post, former landing place or ferry crossing, and marina all reflect the settlement’s enduring connection to the water. This history complements the nature and walking themes with a perspective on Tissinghuse’s development.
