Østervrå brings together church architecture and art, cycling and nature trails, and swimming. If you’re looking for hotels in Østervrå, you can plan your stay around whether culture, outdoor activities or swimming is your main priority. Each theme offers something distinct: from the Neo-Romanesque church to digital photographic art, regional cycling connections, a nature trail and the swimming pool.

Culture and photographic art

Østervrå Church was built in 1900 to plans by architect Frits Uldall in the Neo-Romanesque style. Neo-Romanesque describes an architectural style that draws on forms from the Romanesque period. In 1996, artist Arne Lundsteen Hansen created a new altar design and ceiling decoration featuring the work “VEJENE”. This makes it possible to distinguish the building’s construction date and style from the later design of the altar and ceiling.

PixlArt opened in a converted church in Østervrå in 2015. The venue presents photographic art using new technology. Its concept includes, among other things, digital images by Danish and international artists displayed on large screens. Alongside the church architecture and the design of “VEJENE”, this offers a different way to experience art: digital photography is presented on large display surfaces. When weighing up cultural themes for your stay, you can therefore distinguish between architecture and church art on the one hand, and digitally presented photographic art on the other.

Cycling routes and scenery

Østervrå offers cyclists two different points of reference. The regional Tannisbugt Route runs from Østervrå to Skiveren; in Østervrå, it also connects with the Hærvejen cycling route. This distinguishes the named route towards Skiveren from the connection to another named cycling route. The information gives you different reference points when choosing a cycling route.

The route lengths also provide a concrete comparison. A 5 km nature trail runs through the local biodiversity forest at Hærvejspladsen Østervrå. The MTB circuit in Østervrå is just under 5 km long. So the routes are similar in length, but differ in their described focus: one passes through the biodiversity forest, while the other is an MTB circuit. This means you can plan based on the type of route rather than distance alone.

On the final stretch to Østervrå, the route crosses a large, open plateau with far-reaching views across the Midtvendsyssel landscape. The end of an old fjord arm, called Volstrupsletten, lies there. The term “fjord arm” refers to the landscape’s former shape; at the same time, the view from the plateau looks out across the wide-open Midtvendsyssel landscape. This stretch therefore combines scenic views with a reference to the area’s geological history.

Swimming in Østervrå

Østervrå Sports and Culture Centre has a 25-metre swimming pool with water heated to 29°C. The swimming facility also includes a spa and a steam room. Its facilities are described in specific terms: pool length, water temperature and two additional amenities. Swimming is therefore clearly distinct from the cultural venues and outdoor routes, adding a separate focus to the range of possible travel interests.
