Femmøller combines marked hiking trails with traces of history. The Mølleåen still flows through the town.

Landscape and traces of history

Four historic mills have been preserved along the Mølleåen in Femmøller. Kjerris Mølle is one of them. Femmøller Efterskole is also connected to the town’s history: the school is housed in the region’s first seaside hotel, built in 1909.

Nearby, Egil Fischers Mindepark lies just behind Femmøller Strand. Planned in the 1920s, the holiday town is considered Denmark’s first planned holiday town.

Hiking trails and stages

The marked Den italienske sti trail starts at the car park opposite Femmøller Efterskole and climbs a steep slope into the Mols Bjerge. Over the 3.5 kilometres to Strandkær, it passes through woodland and heathland, as well as a protected natural forest with rare plants, butterflies and small animals.

Another option is the Femmøllerstien: marked with yellow dots, this 1.5-kilometre hiking trail leads from Femmøller into the Mols Bjerge. The distances clearly distinguish the two trails: the Femmøllerstien is 1.5 kilometres long, while the 3.5-kilometre Den italienske sti ends in Strandkær. This lets you match the distance you have in mind with the landscape experience each trail offers.

The Bjergetapen is a circular route. A shortened 10-kilometre loop starts and ends in Femmøller; the shortcut is via Tremosevej. The Ebeltoft stage can also be started in Femmøller. The Kalø stage starts at Kalø Slotskro and ends at Femmøller Efterskole. The three stages of the Mols Bjerge-stien meet at the car park in Femmøller.

For cyclists, Femmøller By is suggested as a possible starting point for the Rundt om bjergene route. The route suggestions presented here therefore offer different ways to explore the area: marked trails, stages and a possible starting point for a cycling trip.

Beach and water activities

Nearby, Femmøller Strand offers relatively calm waters and good conditions for swimming. Sea kayaking and trips in small boats are also possible there when conditions are good. Public toilets and access to drinking water are available near the beach.

This makes it easy to weigh up the focus of your trip: trails through woodland and heathland lead into the Mols Bjerge, while the nearby beach offers opportunities for water activities. When looking for a hotel, you can take these interests into account as you plan your trip, without combining the different destinations into a single route.

Practical information

There are two non-bookable shelters in Femmøller, available on a first-come, first-served basis. As facilities may change, check the latest information about the shelters in advance.

A bus runs through Femmøller and stops, among other places, at the car park opposite Femmøller Efterskole. Check the current timetable before travelling. This will help you coordinate your arrival with the starting points of the trails and stages described here.
