If you are considering Hundslund as a destination, its trails and local history offer two different starting points for planning your trip. The Banestien runs along part of a disused railway line; the Torup-Sondrup Kirkesti is a marked circular route between Sondrup and Torup. Hundslund’s nature and cultural attractions also include the activity area at Hundslund Hallen, the nature playground and Hundslund Church. This lets you decide whether to focus your stay on the landscape or on historical details.

Trails and Landscape

The Banestien near Hundslund is a public trail along part of the disused railway line between Odder and Horsens. Sections of the Hundslund-Åkjær Nature Trail offer expansive views across the fields of the Åkjær estate. This links your route planning to a particular landscape: the estate’s fields are the focal point of this nature trail.

For the Torup-Sondrup Kirkesti, other planning details take centre stage: the circular route is 3.8 km long and marked with yellow arrows and dots. It can be started at several points. A suitable starting point is Hundslund Hallen in Torup, at Torupvej 39; the route passes directly by the hall. This makes it easy to plan the Kirkesti as a circular walk with a clearly stated length and several possible starting points. When planning your walk, bear in mind that trail conditions may change; check the current situation before setting out.

Nature Spots and Time Outdoors

At the activity area at Hundslund Hallen, there are three shelters that can be used freely for a small fee. There is also a large shelter with seating. These details distinguish the three shelters from the larger shelter, which is specifically described as having seating. The nature playground is a natural play area in Hundslund. This gives you a choice of different types of outdoor spaces: a spot with shelters and a larger shelter, as well as a nature playground. Which ones are relevant to your travel plans depends on whether you would rather include a place to relax or a playground.

Church and Historical Heritage

Hundslund Church is a Romanesque church dating from the late 12th century. One distinctive feature is its granite baptismal font: it is Romanesque and decorated with a lion motif and carved figures. The church’s date and the design of the font offer two different ways to explore the building—its historical period, on the one hand, and a specific motif, on the other.

Three Vildtbanepæle, also known as Vildtbanesten, form a striking feature at the entrance to the churchyard. Their inscriptions give 1757 as the year they were made. The stones originally stood at Åkjær, very close to Hundslund; they were moved later. Their present location at the churchyard entrance and their former location at Åkjær belong to different chapters of their history. The year 1757 refers to when the stones were made, while their later relocation is a separate episode in their history.
