Trails, Water and a Rail-Bike Ride
Banestien between Allingåbro and Ryomgård is 15 kilometres long, paved and designed as a cycling and walking trail. It passes through forest and farmland. Its length and surface provide clear details for planning your day; whether you walk or cycle it is up to you. A municipal report dated 26 March 2026 lists a total of 99 light poles along Banestien, which switch on automatically when movement is detected, making the trail safer and more pleasant to use.
A rail-bike ride offers a different view of the area. It starts at the old railway station in Allingåbro and follows the edge of Randers Fjord, through forests and across open fields. The route between Allingåbro and Randers can be up to 16 kilometres long. Banestien is a paved cycling and walking trail, while the rail-bike ride follows its own route along the fjord. The distances are similar, but refer to different ways of getting around.
The designated area of Randers Fjord Nature Park extends around the Alling Å in Allingåbro; landing stages for small boats have been set up there. Djursland for Fuld Damp rents canoes for trips on the Alling Å or Grund Fjord. One suggested route goes from Allingåbro to Gammel Estrup and back: about ten kilometres and approximately two hours, not including breaks. When planning, allow extra time for breaks on top of the approximate travel time. Check the current rental service before your visit, as operating details may vary by season.
Railway Heritage and Technical History
The railway history of Allingåbro can be traced through two dates: passenger services on the line continued until 1971, while freight services continued until 1993. The railway station area in Allingåbro is still relatively well preserved. It includes a station building, a warehouse and a toilet building, as well as railway tracks with various technical installations.
The Veteranbil Værkstedsmuseet is located at the disused railway station. There, you can see and experience what a workshop looked like 50 years ago and how cars from the 1930s to the 1960s were repaired. This brings technical history to life not only through railway tracks and station buildings, but also through workshop activities.
