Hadbjerg Between Forest and History
Accommodation in Hadbjerg
Hadbjerg brings together natural sites and a focus on cultural history. At Hadbjerg Skov, the forest, water and several facilities shape the visit; Hadbjerg Søpark offers a village pond with a picnic house and fire pit. Hadbjerg Kirke is notable for its Romanesque architecture, while the Hadbjerg Genforeningssten, in front of the cemetery entrance, commemorates reunification. You can tailor your stay to the themes that interest you most.
Forest, Water and Natural Sites
Hadbjerg Skov covers 50,000 square metres, or five hectares, and has more than 30,000 trees. It is a deciduous forest with an orchard, pond, stream, picnic house, shelter sites and a dog forest. The pond and stream shape the woodland landscape; the picnic house and shelter sites are specific facilities for spending time outdoors.
Shelterplads Hadbjerg Skov is centrally located in the forest on a hill and offers views over fields and the surrounding landscape. The site has three shelters and a fire pit, with space for nine guests in total. This capacity applies to the shelter site as a whole, not to each individual shelter.
The public forest between Hadsten and Hadbjerg also covers five hectares and is accessible to walkers through gates in the fence. By contrast, you can reach Hadbjerg Skov via Smedebakken 30 or Højvangsvej 16: the same area, but different access points.
Village Pond, Church and Memorial Stone
Hadbjerg Søpark is a modern village pond with a picnic house and fire pit. Visitors can explore Hadbjerg Skov and Søpark with Nature Bingo. If you plan to take part, check in advance whether the materials are available; availability may change. The two natural sites differ in their focus: Hadbjerg Skov combines deciduous forest, an orchard, a stream and shelter sites; Hadbjerg Søpark is a village pond with a picnic house and fire pit.
Hadbjerg Kirke is on the edge of town and offers views over the fields to the east. Its Romanesque nave and Romanesque chancel are built of granite blocks. The nave and chancel are distinct parts of the church building. Together with the building material, they give architecture enthusiasts specific features to look out for during a visit. The church is closed on weekdays; you can arrange a visit with the cemetery staff.
The Hadbjerg Genforeningssten stands in front of the cemetery entrance. It is topped with a crown, with the monogram of King Christian X below; lines from Henrik Pontoppidan’s reunification song appear in a wreath. Its design combines a royal symbol with a literary reference to reunification. In Hadbjerg, residents decided to erect a memorial stone to commemorate reunification. The cultural highlights differ: the church is notable for its Romanesque architectural elements, while the stone brings together a royal symbol, song lyrics and reunification.
