Discover Nakskov by the Fjord
Accommodation in Nakskov
Nakskov lies at the end of Nakskov Fjord. Its well-preserved medieval townscape can be seen in its old houses, streets and lanes. At the same time, several cultural sites tell the story of the town’s harbour and shipbuilding history. You can therefore choose different priorities when planning your trip: historical exhibitions and buildings, a visit to the beach, or a trip on the fjord.
Town History and Seafaring
The Nakskov Ship and Maritime Museum presents the history of shipbuilding in Nakskov and at the Nakskov Shipyard. Historiens Hus complements this perspective with exhibitions about Nakskov’s history as a bustling harbour town. The two themes offer different perspectives: one focuses on shipbuilding, the other on the development of the harbour town. St. Nicholas Church is also part of the historic setting; it is believed to date from the 13th century.
Dronningens Pakhus, a warehouse dating from the 17th century, stands at Nakskov harbour. It is considered Denmark’s oldest harbour building. The Nakskov Fire Museum explores another aspect of the town’s history: its collection includes older and more recent fire engines, as well as firefighting equipment. Traces of the great medieval herring markets can also be found at Albuen. Together, these places offer different ways to explore Nakskov’s past—from shipbuilding and harbour trade to firefighting.
Beach, Fjord and Trails
Hestehovedet Beach has a 190-metre-long bathing jetty. The beach is considered suitable for children and wheelchair users, and its favourable wind conditions make it a good surfing spot. The weather at the time affects surfing conditions. At this same beach, the bathing jetty and the wind therefore offer different reasons to visit.
The historic excursion boat PostbĂĄden Vesta runs various tours during the summer to the small and unique islands in Nakskov Fjord. As the trips are seasonal, it is a good idea to check the timetable for your travel dates. The two-masted schooner Johanne is based in Nakskov. For a different way to explore the area, the Ud pĂĄ Albuen walking route passes through a unique natural and cultural area. A summer trip to the islands and a walking route can thus be seen as different ways to spend your free time, rather than being combined into a single outing.
Practical Information for Your Visit
