Farum combines nature-focused experiences at Farum Sø and in the forests with architecture, village history and exhibitions. If you are looking for a hotel in Farum, you can choose your destination based on your interests: Would you like to explore marked hiking trails, learn about architectural history or include cultural activities? The different themes give your trip planning a clear direction.

Hiking trails and birdlife

Farum Sø is home to a diverse range of birdlife, including the goldeneye and the goosander. Along Farum Søsti, 11 stones with reliefs complement the nature theme: they stand at each full-kilometre marker and depict animals or plants typical of the area. So, as well as walking, the trail gives you specific things to look out for along the way.

There are three marked hiking trails in Farumskovene. One example is the 6.5-kilometre Terkelskov and Nyvang hiking trail. It leads through hilly terrain with forest lakes, the Fileten Arboretum and Ravnehullet. Its length and named landscape features give you specific points to consider when choosing a route for your time outdoors. Farum is the best starting point for activities in Terkelskov.

Architecture and local history

Stavnsholtkirken offers several precise features to consider from an architectural perspective. Its interior has an almost square floor plan and forms a cube-shaped space with chamfered corners. Johan Otto von Spreckelsen won the architectural competition. The church was completed and ready for its inauguration on 23 August 1981.

Farum Midtpunkt also makes its own mark on architectural history: the housing estate was built from 1972 to 1975 as one of the most experimental of its time. Its architectural concept combines the privacy of a detached house with an external community. Anyone interested in residential architecture can consider not only an individual building here, but also the idea of how private and communal spaces can be designed together.

In Farum Landsby, two buildings point to different dates in the 18th century. Rytterskolen was built by Frederik IV in 1726; Madam Schieves hus was built as a middle-class home in 1755. Together with Stavnsholtkirken and Farum Midtpunkt, they offer a range of starting points for a stay focused on architectural styles and local history.

Farum Sø, garden and bathing spot

Farumgaard is situated right by Farum Sø and has a preserved Baroque garden. In October 2023, public access through the park was restored via a path along the east side of the Baroque garden. Check the latest access information before visiting the park. This keeps the historical information about the restoration separate from the practical decision of whether to visit.

Doktorens bugt is the smallest bathing spot in Furesø Municipality on Farum Sø. This adds a specific connection to the water to the nature and walking themes. If you plan to visit, check the latest information before your trip.

Exhibitions and local heritage

At Farum Kulturhus, you can visit exhibitions by local, national and international artists. The venue has five galleries and a children’s gallery. Current exhibitions may change, so check the latest exhibition information before your visit.

Cornelen in Stavnsholt recreates a typical rural farm shop from the 1930s. The recreated shop offers a specific connection to rural everyday life at the time. Coffee and tea are sold at Cornelen’s café. Check before travelling whether this offering is available for your visit.
