Nivå: Art, Coast and Nature
Accommodation in Nivå
Nivå brings together an art collection, industrial history, coastline, birdlife and cycling route as different themes for your stay. If you are looking for a hotel in Nivå, you can first decide which focus should shape your trip. The nature themes range from seasonal blooms to year-round resting places; the cycling route offers a distinct focus of its own.
Art and industrial history
Nivaagaard Collection shows artworks from the Italian and Northern European Renaissance, the Dutch Baroque and the Danish Golden Age. Its art-historical focus therefore spans several periods and different European traditions. Each year, the collection presents two to three temporary exhibitions. It also offers activities for children and adults. The collection’s galleries, changing exhibitions and activities are all part of Nivå’s cultural offerings.
Nivaagaard Brickworks’ Ring Kiln tells another chapter of the area’s history. The facility went into operation in 1870 and is a rare preserved industrial monument. A visit includes a guided tour covering the history of the area and the brickworks, as well as how the ring kilns work. The art collection and ring kiln offer different perspectives: here, works from several art periods; there, the history of a brickworks and the workings of its ring kilns.
Nature and the seasons
In the park by Nivaagaard Collection, the rhododendrons are in full bloom in late May and early June. The coastal meadows at Nivå Bay follow a different seasonal rhythm: they serve as a resting place for thousands of birds all year round. Over the years, more than 200 bird species have been observed there. The difference is clear when planning your trip: the blooms are concentrated in a limited period, while the coastal meadows are a resting area throughout the year.
Stationshaven also has its own focus. The area is managed with biodiversity in mind and features insect-friendly natural fences and beehives. Lessons on biodiversity are also held there. The nature themes thus range from birdwatching on the coastal meadows to the management and interpretation of nature at Stationshaven.
Beach and harbour
Nivå Beach is a sandy beach with a long bathing jetty extending into the Øresund. The jetty is also accessible to people with disabilities. Nivå Harbour was built in a former clay pit belonging to Nivå Brickworks and has 426 berths. At the beach, the bathing jetty shapes the scene; at the harbour, the former clay pit is part of its history.
Railway and cycling routes
Nivå station is in North Zealand, more precisely in Fredensborg Municipality, on the railway line between København H and Helsingør. The line is called Kystbanen; regional trains stop in Nivå, among other places.
Dronningerunden is a 40-kilometre signposted cycling route. It leads from Nivå on the Øresund coast inland to Lake Esrum and Fredensborg Palace. Langstrupstien leads from Fredensborg through villages and forests to Nivå’s coastal meadows on the Øresund. Dronningerunden can be identified by its length and the destinations listed; the description of Langstrupstien is defined by its villages, forests and coastal meadows.
Electric cars can be charged in the car park at Nivaagaard Collection, and electric bicycles at the bicycle stands.
