For a trip to Hjorte, you can choose between nature and cultural interests. The trails and waterways are the main attractions in Brænde Ådal, while Hjorte’s local history and nearby Tanderup Kirke offer a different perspective. Consider whether outdoor activities or cultural history should play a bigger part in your stay.

Hiking trails and scenery

Brende Mølle is a historic and scenic area and a starting point for excursions through Brænde Ådal. The valley has marked hiking trails, with parking near Skovbrynet and Brende Mølle. The marked trails help you plan your route through the valley.

Brende Mølle has a good network of paths around the mill ponds and the small streams branching off from the Brende Å. You can follow the river valley as far as the road to Assens. This lets you focus your outing on the trails, the waterways, or the course of the valley.

Brænde Ådal also has a shelter with a fire pit at Klakkebjerg for simple overnight stays. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose between a basic overnight stay in the shelter and a hotel stay.

Planning by bike or train

Bicycle Route 71 runs through the Brænde Ådal area. Gelsted has a train connection. If you plan to arrive by train, check the timetable for your travel dates; if you are planning a cycling trip, you can include the route in your plans.

History and culture

The place name Hjorte is documented in 1396 in the historical form “Hiorvit”. Hjorte is also considered a village that was largely bypassed by the economic development of the past century.

Nearby Tanderup Kirke is a medieval church dating from around 1200. Its baptismal font dates from around 1100, making it about a century older than the church. Concerts and other musical events are occasionally held there. If you are interested, check the event dates before your trip.

Hjorte Holme Skov is also part of the local history: on June 21, 1891, a festival was held there in aid of Tanderup Sogns Sygekasseforening. In the late 19th century, the forest was close to the road to Assens and considered easily accessible to visitors from the surrounding parishes.

Choose your hotel search based on your interests

When looking for hotels in Hjorte, consider whether hiking and cycling or cultural history should play a bigger part in your stay. This lets you plan your trip around the interest that matters most to you.
