Boderne: Beach, Harbor and Walking Trails
Accommodation in Boderne
Boderne lies on Bornholm’s south coast, roughly halfway between Dueodde and Rønne. Its location makes the coastal character a central feature, while the harbor and walking trails offer further perspectives when choosing a place to stay.
Beach and Coastal Landscape
The narrow sandy beach runs along a steep, grassy dune slope that curves around a long bay. At the end of Boderne Beach, a military training area begins. It is closed while in use and is used only rarely during the season. Check local notices for current restrictions before your visit.
Harbor and Cottage Settlement
Boderne Harbor is the home port of about 45 local dinghies and pleasure boats; the approximate number may change. A picturesque cottage settlement built into the steep coastal slope conveys the history of the harbor. The settlement’s appearance thus adds a visible link to its history alongside the harbor.
Boderne has a parking lot, toilets and an ice cream kiosk. Check locally to see whether these facilities are currently open.
Two Walking Trails with Different Routes
In the wider region, Boderne is the western endpoint of the sixth stage of the Kyststien coastal trail from Snogebæk to Boderne. The section is about 20 kilometers long, takes five to six hours and is rated easy to moderate.
The marked Læsåstien follows the Læså River for about 20 kilometers, from its mouth near Boderne to its source at Bastemose in Almindingen Forest. Both trails are roughly the same length, but their routes differ: Kyststien is a stage of the coastal trail, while Læsåstien follows the river from its mouth to its source. A duration and difficulty rating are also provided for Kyststien. This makes it possible to distinguish the two trails by their routes and, for the coastal trail, also by its time frame and rating.
Explore Bornholm Beyond Boderne
You can also plan your journey at the island-wide level: Bornholm is accessible by ferry, plane, bus or train. The ferry crossing from Ystad to Bornholm takes one hour and 20 minutes. Check current timetables and connections before traveling.
Other topics to explore on Bornholm include nature, landscapes and history. The NaturBornholm experience center features dinosaurs, live crocodiles, an aquarium and a bison exhibition; exhibitions can change, so check what is currently on offer before your visit. Bornholm’s Medieval Centre is a 15-hectare open-air museum that brings 14th-century Bornholm to life in an informative and interactive way. As a contrast in scenery, Ekkodalen in Almindingen is Bornholm’s largest rift valley. These island destinations broaden the view beyond Boderne and offer different highlights from the beach, harbor and coastal trails.
