Stomorska is Šolta’s oldest coastal settlement. Along the waterfront promenade, old stone houses stand beside sailboats and small fishing boats; Dalmatian taverns are also part of the visitor experience by the water. Beaches stretch along both sides of the bay, making the coastline and swimming spots defining features of the town. When choosing where to stay, you can consider whether beach days are your main priority or whether you’d also like to explore other places in the wider destination of Solta.

Beaches and Swimming Spots in the Bay

Stomorska’s swimming spots offer opportunities to sunbathe and jump into the sea. The bay also has beach facilities for holidaymakers; what is available may vary seasonally. Điga is a pebble beach at the end of the waterfront promenade. In the regional beach management program, Veli Dolac is classified as a developed local beach for families with children. The program classifies Zadušnja as a natural, secluded beach with recreational facilities for young people. If these facilities are important to your plans, check their current status before visiting.

Churches and History

The present-day Church of St. Nicholas was built in 1870 on the site of an older chapel. Its bell gable holds three bells. The year it was built and the earlier chapel site link a specific date with an older place of worship; the bell gable adds a distinctive architectural detail.

Near Stomorska, the Church of Gospe u Borima stands above the bay surrounding the harbor. A forest path leads from the church to Šolta’s highest peak, where a cross stands. The pilgrimage to Gospe u Borima is still held. The church, pilgrimage and path to the peak add religious tradition and a connection to Šolta’s highest point to the coastal theme.

Getting to Stomorska

Jadrolinija’s ferry line 636 connects Split with Rogač on Šolta; the crossing takes 60 minutes. The ticket includes a reserved place on the ferry and departure at the desired time. After arriving by ferry in Rogač, take a bus to Stomorska. Check the schedule before your trip so you can factor the bus into your arrival plans.

Solta Beyond Stomorska

The wider destination of Solta offers cycling routes with different profiles. The “Slatki Rogač” route is flat and follows a waterfront promenade, making it suitable for cyclists of all ages and all types of bicycles. The “Staza sutona nad 7 otočića” route climbs to 170 meters above sea level, where it offers numerous views. The two options are distinct: a flat waterfront route and a route with a climb and viewpoints.

Culture is also part of the wider destination: the Buktenica & Buktenica Gallery in the center of Grohote permanently displays works by Eugen Buktenica and his successor Vicko Buktenica. You can consider this visit a cultural highlight in its own right, alongside Stomorska’s coastal and beach attractions.
