Maslinica: Coast, Culture and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Maslinica
Maslinica combines a varied coastline with architectural history and cycling routes. An archipelago of seven islets lies off Maslinica Bay. South of the bay, pine forest and secluded pebble beaches are part of the landscape. Martinis-Marchi Castle, the marina and the Church of St Nicholas are further landmarks to orient your stay.
Coast, Bays and Swimming Spots
There is a prepared beach for swimming in the Punta area. Nearby Šipkova Bay is home to Šolta’s only sandy beach. Access and beach conditions at Šipkova may vary; beach facilities at Punta may change. Checking the latest conditions can help you include these spots in your day’s plans. Kayaking from Maslinica beach is promoted as an adventure for exploring the nearby islets; equipment availability may vary.
History and Views
In 1703, the Marchi brothers received permission to build a defensive tower, a village and a church above Maslinica Bay. Martinis-Marchi Castle in Maslinica was built as a fortress with a courtyard and tower in 1708. The restored castle operates as a luxury hospitality property. The parish Church of St Nicholas stands on the highest hill south of Maslinica Bay. There is a viewpoint right next to the church, with panoramic views stretching to the surrounding bays and towards Drvenik and Trogir. Here, a historic building and a clearly located vantage point bring together views of the coast and surrounding area.
Cycling and Getting Around on Foot
A cycling route leads from Grohote via Srednje and Donje Selo to Maslinica and can be used by bicycle or on foot. Trail surface conditions may change; check the route’s condition before your trip.
The “Staza sutona nad 7 otočića” cycling tour runs via Rogač, Grohote, Maslinica and Donje Selo before returning to Rogač. From Maslinica, the route climbs over 4 km to 170 m above sea level. An MTB or e-MTB is recommended for this tour, as the singletrack descents may be too rough for gravel and trekking bikes. Weather and trail maintenance can change the technical difficulty. The route to Maslinica and the named tour therefore answer different planning questions: the first is about a connection that can also be used on foot, while the tour covers the route, climb and type of bike.
