Municipality of Tučepi: Pebble Beach, Hiking Trails and Local Heritage
Accommodation in Municipality of Tučepi
Tučepi lies on the Makarska Riviera at the foot of the Biokovo Mountains. The town combines a long pebble beach with paths between the coast, olive groves and the former village centre of Srida sela. It also has a historic church, a maritime tradition and insights into local culture. You can shape your stay around beach walks, hikes or a look at the town’s history.
Coast, Paths and Hikes
Tučepi’s pebble beach is four kilometres long and lined with shade-giving pine trees. A path runs along the entire beach, making it suitable for long walks and bike rides. This gives you options for exploring the coast on foot or by bike.
Three marked and maintained trails lead from the coast through centuries-old olive groves to the former village centre of Srida sela. The route connects the coast, groves and former village centre. Check the condition of the trails locally if you plan to use them during your visit.
Two moderately difficult hiking trails differ in route and duration. From Tučepi/Srida sela, the trail goes via Sv. Kate, Mali vrv and Badališće to Ravna Vlaška; it is listed as taking four hours. The route from Tučepi/Grubišići to Lađana goes via Logršća Voda and Kolovrat and takes three hours and 30 minutes. Both are moderately difficult; the second route is half an hour shorter.
History and Culture in Tučepi
The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in 1703 on the foundations of an older medieval church. It stands on a rise above the coast in the southeast of Tučepi. The building thus links the history of its medieval predecessor with the period when the present church was built.
Tučepi’s harbour is associated with a long maritime and fishing tradition. Traditional fishermen’s evenings were held there. The “Tučepi Summer Evenings” programme included cultural events and entertainment; the kKuTz Festival took place in the villages of Tučepi in summer.
The Škrinjica ethnological collection displays a traditional home with old furniture and folk costumes in a traditional house in Tučepi. The collection also offers tastings of homemade brandy and olive oil. Check the opening hours before visiting.
Sports and Getting Around
The Slatina sports centre in Tučepi has tennis courts and a football pitch. There is also a diving school at the centre; check current operating details before making specific plans. Tučepi also has a zipline. As details may change with the operator, confirm the latest information with the provider in advance.
Tučepi is 80 kilometres from Split Airport and can be reached by road, ferry and port connections. Check distances and transport links when planning your specific trip. For planning your time locally, you can also consider whether to allow more time for the coastal path, one of the hikes of different lengths or the cultural attractions.
