Vojnić Sinjski offers two distinct starting points for your stay: architectural and local history on the one hand, and cycling on the other. The cultural monuments can be distinguished by their architectural form, location and historical periods; the Nutjak route brings several cultural and landscape themes together in a single cycling context.

Churches, Cemeteries and Local History

The parish church of St George in Vojnić was built in the 1930s on the site of an older church dating from the 18th century. Its floor plan is cruciform; it also has a semicircular apse and a bell tower on the façade. The apse is the semicircular end of the church interior, while the floor plan describes the shape of the entire building.

The parish church cemetery includes massive, decorated stone crosses dating from the 15th and 16th centuries. Roman inscriptions and reliefs are also embedded in the cemetery wall. The different periods are reflected in two features of the same cemetery: the medieval grave crosses and the Roman traces on the wall.

The archaeological site and the church of St Jure in Vojnić Sinjski are listed as provisionally protected in the Croatian Register of Cultural Property under number P-2416.

Below the village of Vojnić, in the fields, stands the small, single-nave church of St Clare, with a pitched roof. Several medieval cross-shaped tombstones are located next to it. Compared with the parish church of St George, the buildings have different forms: the parish church has a cruciform floor plan, while St Clare has a single nave. Its location in the fields below the village is another specific difference from the parish church in Vojnić.

The history of Vojnić and Gardun is linked to their liberation in 1686. Subsequently, Vojnić received new settlers from Bosnia and the neighbouring region of Poljica. The historical connection applies to both places; the subsequent influx of settlers concerns Vojnić. The building history adds another timeline: a church from the 18th century was followed by the parish church of St George in the 1930s.

Cycling and Route Connections

The 14-kilometre Nutjak cycling route passes through Gardun and Vojnić. It connects the settlements’ sacred heritage with Nutjak Fortress and the Cetina landscape. Its length provides a specific measure for planning the tour.

A description from 2017 also details a cycling approach through Gardun towards Vojnić along a narrow local road. On this approach, the asphalt gives way to about a kilometre of pale gravel before the first houses. Road and surface conditions may change, so check them before setting out.

Vojnić Sinjski is listed as one of the named places on the Central Dalmatia Camino map. Trail conditions and signage may change; check them before planning your route.
