In Gornji Proložac, church architecture and the Imotska Kapa Route offer two concrete starting points for planning your trip. The churches tell the story of building phases from different periods; the route leads toward Gornji Vinjani, passing old stone houses and unspoiled nature. You can take these themes into account when choosing your destination, based on what matters most for your stay.

Churches and Mass times in Gornji Proložac

The Church of the Sacred Heart of Mary stands in Bušanje, a hamlet in Gornji Proložac. It was built in 1995. The Church of St Joseph the Worker in Gornji Proložac, near Maršići, also has a more recent building history: built in 1985, it was demolished because of structural hazards and rebuilt in an expanded form after the foundation stone was laid on 1 May 2013. These two dates give each church its own historical context.

Mass is celebrated in Bušanje every other Sunday at 11 a.m. Mass is also held in Podi every other Sunday at 11 a.m.; the dates alternate with Bušanje. If you plan to attend a service during your trip, check the current schedule again before you arrive, as arrangements may change.

The Imotska Kapa Route and its landscape

The Imotska Kapa runs toward Gornji Vinjani, passing old stone houses and unspoiled nature. The route description thus combines a built rural setting with open stretches of landscape. You can make this route a focus of your trip if you are interested in old houses and nature; no walking time or difficulty level is specified. The churches and the route offer different points of interest and can be considered as separate themes when planning your trip.

The wider setting: Općina Proložac

Within the wider destination of Općina Proložac, Proložac lies on the northeastern side of the Imotsko-Bekijsko Field. The surrounding highlands rise toward the northern and northwestern hills, reaching about 600 to 700 metres. Depressions and small fertile clearings are also part of this landscape. These regional descriptions provide a broader geographical context for your trip, while Gornji Proložac offers its own points of interest in the form of local churches and the Imotska Kapa Route.

The Vrljika rises from five springs on the border between Općina Proložac and the town of Imotski. The stretch of river from the springs to the bridge at Perinuša was designated a special ichthyological reserve in 1971. Dva oka are round springs at the source of the Vrljika and are under strict protection. The upper course is also home to the endemic softmouth trout (Salmothymus obtusirostris). These names and features make the river a distinctive nature-related point of interest within the wider destination.

Culture, landscape and events across the wider destination

The Church of Our Lady at the Opačac archaeological site near the source of the Vrljika, close to Imotski, was built in 1719 on the foundations of a somewhat larger 14th-century church. It is a pilgrimage site; several thousand pilgrims gather there, especially for the Feast of the Assumption. Another place with its own distinctive character is Lučica, the meadow known as the Green Cathedral, with centuries-old trees beside the Vrljika. A large stone votive cross was erected on Kokića glavica in Donji Proložac in 1995.

The landscape attractions also have different backgrounds. The Green Lake was created as a reservoir in Ričice in 1985. The Ferata Imotica Ričice via ferrata is set on a cliff face overlooking the lake. It is 285 metres long and has an elevation difference of 160 metres. These measurements provide a concrete reference for the facility, without making any claims about its current availability or on-site conditions.

Prološka kužina adds an events theme: the traditional event brings together local cuisine, music and socialising. It traditionally takes place on 5 August; check the specific date in advance when planning your trip. The wider setting of Općina Proložac therefore brings together nature, religious history and a communal event as distinct themes to consider when planning your trip.
