Hrvace Municipality: Landscape, pottery and cultural heritage
Accommodation in Hrvace Municipality
Hrvace Municipality offers a range of ways to shape your stay: the Rumin landscape, cycling routes connected to the Cetina, historic buildings and the pottery tradition that is still preserved in Potravlje. As you plan, consider whether nature, cycling, cultural heritage or local crafts will define your stay. The specific place and route details can help you decide which interests to explore.
The Rumin landscape and small lakes
The Rumin protected landscape area covers Mali Rumin and Veliki Rumin and spans 33.5 hectares. It was designated an important landscape area in 2000. Its steep cliffs provide a habitat for species including ravens, kestrels and eagle owls. Miloševo is also part of the landscape: the lake is one of two small lakes in Hrvace. In addition, areas within the municipality are part of the Natura 2000 network.
These details describe different aspects of the landscape: Rumin is a designated area, characterised by its cliffs and bird species, while Miloševo is one of the small lakes mentioned. Use this information as you plan your trip and decide which aspects of nature you would like to explore further.
Cycling routes and paragliding
The 25-kilometre Aequum cycling route passes through Sinj, Suhač and Karakašica to Hrvace, then continues to Most na Panju. A cycling route to Panj also passes through Hrvace, crosses the Cetina and then follows the river. The route descriptions offer different points of reference: the Aequum route lists its length and sequence of places, while the Panj route highlights the river crossing and the subsequent stretch along the water.
Greda near Hrvace is a paragliding site with a launch point at an altitude of 820 metres. If you are considering a flight, check the current access arrangements and the suitability of the site in advance.
Churches, pottery and historic buildings
The parish church of Svih Svetih in Hrvace was built between 1866 and 1871. The parish church of Sv. Filipa i Jakova in Potravlje dates from 1774. The difference between the construction dates offers a specific point of reference if you are interested in local church history. The ruins of the church of Sv. Jure are located on Krinj Hill in Hrvace.
In Potravlje, traditional pottery made on a potter’s wheel is still practised. It includes amphorae for tourist sales and miniature versions of traditional vessels offered as souvenirs. Product details may change; if you are interested, ask about the current selection.
Other historic traces are spread across different parts of the municipality. Alebića kula in Satrić is an archaeological site. Most na Panju in Donji Bitelić is a civil structure of cultural and historical value; Bošnjakova mlinica near Vojskova Vrilo is an industrial heritage monument. Bitelić is home to prehistoric burial mounds, and Stočarski stan in Đapić is an ethnological heritage monument. An old mill in the Rumin landscape area is a typical example of local vernacular architecture.
Regional cuisine and planning your visit
The Podastrana family farm serves dishes prepared under a peka and cooks food in a wood-fired bread oven. Visits to the farm must be arranged 24 hours in advance. As visit and dining options may change, confirm these details before booking.
Whether you are more interested in cycling, the landscape or historic buildings, these themes offer different ideas for planning your stay in Hrvace Municipality.
