Discover Srima
Accommodation in Srima
Srima combines beach attractions with sacred architecture and archaeology. This gives you two distinct areas to focus on when planning your trip: the coastal stretches, and the Church of Our Lady of Srima and the basilicas of Prižba. If you are looking for a hotel in Srima, these specific places can help you decide which topic interests you most.
Beaches and getting around
Srima Beach is near the centre of town and provides access for people with disabilities. Check the specific accessibility features again before your trip. Lovetovo-Srima Beach stretches along the bay from Imperial Beach to Srima; it can be reached on foot or by car. The two beach descriptions offer different points of reference: Srima Beach is notable for its proximity to the centre and access for people with disabilities, while Lovetovo-Srima is notable for its stretch along the bay and the stated ways of getting there.
Church and fresco
The small Church of Our Lady of Srima is a single-nave building with a bell tower. Its sanctuary contains a 12th-century fresco. It depicts the Virgin Mary with the Child, Saint Vitus and Saint George, as well as a ploughman with oxen. Religious figures thus appear alongside a scene of agricultural work: the fresco offers several specific motifs for art enthusiasts to look out for. The church therefore combines a brief architectural description with an image whose figures can be viewed individually. Conditions and visitor access may vary; check the current arrangements before visiting.
Prižba and the basilicas
The archaeological site of Prižba in Srima comprises two single-nave twin basilicas, generally dated to the 6th century. The complex has a chronological sequence: the North Basilica is older, and the South Basilica was added later. “Twin basilicas” therefore does not mean that both churches were built at the same time. The pair is considered one of the most thoroughly researched examples in Dalmatia. By comparison, the fresco in the Church of Our Lady of Srima dates from the 12th century. The two cultural sites thus offer different historical periods and perspectives: a later pictorial work in a church on the one hand, and the development of an Early Christian pair of basilicas on the other. Access and conservation conditions at the archaeological site may vary; take this into account when planning a visit.
In Honorem Archaeologiae is also connected with Prižba: during the 2024 European Archaeology Days, the event was held there for the second consecutive year. If attending an event is important to your stay, check the dates for your chosen period in advance.
