Dubravice: Krka Landscape, Cycling Routes and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Dubravice
When choosing Dubravice as your destination, you can focus on different aspects, from the waterside landscape and cycling routes to a walking trail and local cultural heritage. For orientation, the characteristics of each route, scenic destinations and cultural events are all relevant.
Skradinski buk and the landscape
Skradinski buk lies upstream from Skradin, in the area of the settlement of Dubravice. It forms a system of travertine cascades, islets and pools. The combination of these features shapes the character of the landscape. Both details are useful for geographical orientation: Skradin describes its position upstream, while Dubravice names the area where Skradinski buk is located.
Cycling routes with different characteristics
The cycling routes differ in length, surface and course. On its return towards Skradin, Krka Bike Road 1 passes through Dubravice. The Skradin–Rupe leisure cycling route also passes through Dubravice and is 31 kilometres long. Route 252 uses asphalt, gravel and dirt tracks, and is intended for mountain bikes. This gives you different details to consider when planning: the total length of the Skradin–Rupe route, the surface and bicycle type for Route 252, and the direction of travel for Krka Bike Road 1. Check route and safety conditions before setting out; surfaces and conditions may change.
The described sections of the routes also differ. The Skradin–Rupe route climbs gently to the Church of St. Kate in Dubravice. By contrast, the Skradin–Visovačko jezero route descends from Dubravice in bends towards the Krka River. This gives you a gentle climb to a named destination to compare with a winding descent to the river. Length, destination and course offer different clues as to what distinguishes each route.
Walking trail and viewpoints
In the wider Dubravice area, an educational trail runs from Gornji Graovo to the edge of the Krka Gorge at Vukovića podi. It ends at a viewpoint overlooking Visovac Island and the Među gredama gorge. This gives the walk a clearly designated endpoint and two specific landscape features to look out for. If you like having a viewpoint as a landmark when walking, you can include this endpoint in your travel plans. The trail is in the wider Dubravice area and complements the cycling routes with a separate way to explore the landscape on foot.
Uzdah Tower and Uzdaj Spring
The preserved remains of Uzdah Tower stand on a hill above Dubravice. It was built by the noble Šubić family before the arrival of the Ottomans. Uzdaj, a natural drinking-water spring, lies below the tower. It is said never to run dry, even in summer and winter. The tower and spring represent two different aspects of the area: a historic structure and a local natural feature.
The tower can be reached via a gravel road; you will need to cover part of the approach on foot or by bicycle. Access conditions and vegetation may change, so check the conditions on site before visiting. When planning, you can take into account both the described approach and the section to be covered on foot or by bicycle.
Local celebrations and regional connections
A Svitnjak bonfire is traditionally held in Dubravice before the feast of St. John; the specific programme may vary. The celebration of Our Lady of Fatima has been held every year since 1986, with a procession and a solemn Mass. If you are planning your stay around either celebration, check the dates and programme in advance.
The wider connection with Skradin may also be of interest when planning your trip: in the greater Skradin area, Dubravice is among the villages associated with the region’s wine and olive oil roads. This regional context complements the specific walking and cycling routes with a broader perspective on the area.
