Rogoznica combines a clearly defined layout with maritime amenities and individual cultural and natural sites. When choosing a holiday destination, it helps to consider whether you mainly want to spend time on the water, along the coast, or walking and exploring local history. Specific places and paths provide a focal point for these different interests.

Layout and nautical amenities

The centre comprises Kopača, the former mainland area, and the island of Kopara; an artificial causeway connects the two. This layout helps visitors find their way around the town centre. Exploring Rogoznica on foot, you can distinguish the former mainland side and the island as two parts of the centre.

For a nautical-focused trip, Marina Frapa offers a range of specific facilities: berths at sea, moorings at Soline and Sičenica, dry berths, yacht services, a fuel station and a yacht club. The activities mentioned are also sea-focused: they include sailing around Cape Planka, diving, and swimming in private coves and at coastal beaches. When deciding what interests you, you can weigh up time on a boat, underwater and at the beach.

Zmajevo oko and walking paths

Lake Zmajevo oko is located on the Gradina peninsula. At the surface, the water appears greenish-blue; deeper, sulphur-rich layers of water can appear pink, red or violet. In the wider destination of Općina Rogoznica, Zmajevo oko is described as a saltwater lake surrounded by vertical cliffs: these are 4 to 24 metres high, and the maximum recorded depth is about 15 metres. Zmajevo oko is considered safe for swimming; the surrounding cliffs are used for jumping. Assess the conditions when you arrive.

Another way to explore the area on foot is the 2.3-kilometre promenade around the Kopara peninsula. It passes through a wooded section and then follows the coast to the Rogoznica Volunteer Fire Department building. If you plan to take this route, check its condition before your walk, as surfaces and conditions can change. The route description makes it clear where the path runs and at which building it ends.

Churches and local history

The parish church was dedicated to Saint Nicholas in 1615. When it was extended in 1683, it was given the name Church of the Assumption of Mary. Its architectural style is Baroque-Neogothic. The dates and style provide different points of reference when exploring Rogoznica’s religious and architectural heritage.

The votive shrine of Gospa od Kapelice is located at the entrance to Rogoznica harbour on the Gradina peninsula; a small chapel was built there in 1776. The access promenade to the shrine was paved and completed on 20 December 2023. Check the current condition of the access route before your visit. In the wider destination of Općina Rogoznica, the pilgrimage to Gospi od Kapelice in Rogoznica was recognised as intangible cultural heritage of the Republic of Croatia in 2024.

Culinary traditions may also be a focus of your trip: in the wider destination of Općina Rogoznica, you can buy fresh fish and enjoy local specialities such as rogoznički brudet. This allows you to factor an interest in regional cuisine into your choice of accommodation.
