Podorljak: Cycling Routes and Cultivated Karst Landscape
Accommodation in Podorljak
Several cycling routes pass through Podorljak: the Blue Track runs through the village, as do the Green Track and the Hyllis Peninsula Trail. For planning, the approximate total distance, elevation changes, sequence of named places, and suitability for different types of bicycles offer different points of reference. The cultivated karst landscape adds a scenic aspect to the routes.
Cultivated Karst Landscape
Podorljak is part of a continuous cultivated karst landscape, with surrounding farmland and green areas. Pod Gaj near Podorljak is designated as valuable agricultural land and planted with olive groves and vineyards. Along the Blue Track, dry-stone walls, olive groves, vineyards, stone votive chapels, and abandoned houses with stone roofs shape the landscape. Along the route, cultivated land and stone structures meet.
Cycling Routes Through Podorljak
The Blue Track is just under 50 kilometres long and loops around most of the Municipality of Rogoznica. Its section in the Rogoznica hinterland passes through Podorljak. Between Dvornica and Podorljak, the route uses narrow roads with no traffic.
The Green Track reaches Podorljak after climbing from Stupin Čeline via Mocira and Mahala. From Podorljak, it first climbs and then descends steeply towards Svinca. The route also crosses the Adriatic Highway and passes through fields on its way back to Podorljak.
Hyllis Peninsula Trail
The Hyllis Peninsula Trail runs from Marina via Dvornica and Podorljak to Svinica and back to Marina. Between Dvornica and Podorljak, this route also uses narrow roads with no traffic. It can be ridden on trekking, gravel, or mountain bikes.
Different criteria may influence your choice of route: for the Blue Track, the approximate length and overall route are helpful; for the Green Track, the elevation changes. The sequence of places and the type of bicycle are among the points to compare for the Hyllis Trail.
