Trenkovo is shaped above all by Baron Trenk Castle and the surrounding park. When planning a stay, it is worth distinguishing this local focus from the nature, culture, and leisure themes of the wider destination of Općina Velika.

Baron Trenk Castle and Park

Baron Trenk Castle is a Baroque manor house and was the central building of Baron Franjo Trenk’s estate in the first half of the 18th century. Its main entrance faces the Požega–Velika road. The building’s historical role gives Trenkovo a clear architectural landmark.

The park around the castle is also part of the townscape. It has been protected as a monument of garden and park architecture since 1964. The Veličanka stream flows through Trenkovo Park, which covers about eight hectares. This local landmark therefore brings together park architecture and a distinctive landscape.

Nature and Culture in Općina Velika

Papuk Nature Park lies within Općina Velika. The part located in the municipality is a forested mountain and hill landscape with smaller meadows, and accounts for one third of the municipality’s total area. Compared with Trenkovo Park, at around eight hectares, this is a much larger landscape. A stay focused on the castle park and the wider destination’s natural attractions can therefore be considered as two distinct themes.

The old town of Velika offers a distinct cultural perspective: the medieval old town is listed as protected cultural property in Općina Velika under designation Z-419. The oldest Gothic part of the Church of St. Augustine dates from the 14th century, or possibly even earlier. The sanctuary includes an outdoor altar for liturgical celebrations held in the open air. These details give the region’s cultural offerings a different historical perspective from the Baroque manor house in Trenkovo.

The House of the Pannonian Sea in Velika is a visitor and education center. Fossils found on Papuk and on display include fossilized shells, snails, and corals, a dolphin vertebra, shark teeth, fossil leaves, and a rhinoceros jaw. Outside, an educational maze with information panels and sculptures of prehistoric animals further explores the theme. Velika thus offers both natural history exhibits and a landscaped outdoor area as distinct interests.

Cycling routes and other destinations

For cyclists, the Velika–Dubočanka–Velika loop is described in the wider destination of Općina Velika. It is 20.8 kilometers long and starts and ends at the Church of St. Augustine in Velika. The route passes through the Dubočanka valley; a sign along the way points to the Lapjak viewpoint. The start and finish of the Lapjak Walk&Run Trail are in front of the House of the Pannonian Sea in Velika. The cycling loop has a specified distance and described route, while the location of the start and finish is the main detail given for the Walk&Run Trail.

Another leisure option in the wider destination of Općina Velika is Aquapark Shhhuma. It has six swimming pools and three water slides, as well as a water tower for children, a children’s water playground, and a lazy river. These facilities distinguish this destination from the historical and landscape attractions in Trenkovo and Velika.
