When planning your trip to Čaglin, you can combine a range of interests: cycling routes through the town, church and local history, and nature near Lake Sovsko. The two paths by the lake differ in length, route and stated walking time. Archaeological and religious heritage sites in the municipality of Općina Čaglin round out the picture.

Cycling and paths by Lake Sovsko

The Požeška Kružna Ruta passes through Čaglin. The Požeško-Slavonska Route reaches the town via Vlatkovac and Kneževac. If you plan to take one of the routes, check the current route and trail conditions before setting out.

At nearby Lake Sovsko, a 556-metre-long educational trail loops around the lake and includes two piers with resting areas. Visitor facilities were completed in 2022. An additional educational trail leads from the lake through the forest and across a meadow to a viewpoint. It is about one kilometre long, has 15 information panels and takes approximately one hour on foot. The distinction is useful when planning your time: the loop around the lake is 556 metres long, while the additional educational trail is listed as about one kilometre and around one hour.

The natural lake lies on Mount Dilj at an elevation of 430 metres above sea level, covers about 3,600 square metres and is fed by its own spring. It was designated a significant landscape in 1989 and is also part of the Natura 2000 ecological network. Fish, amphibians, reptiles and wetland birds are among the animal groups supported by the lake. Activities associated with it include walks, visiting the wooden viewpoint on Jezero Brdo and family picnics.

Church and local history

The church Crkva sv. Alojzija Gonzage in Čaglin was built as a chapel in 1765, expanded in 1943 and became a parish church in 1945. It was fully restored in 2000, when it acquired its present appearance. Standing on a hill, it dominates the surrounding landscape and is one of the important cultural-historical and urban landmarks of Općina Čaglin.

The town’s history can also be traced through several dates: Čaglin was first mentioned as an estate in 1314 and as a market town in 1434. Its earlier economic history includes activities in timber and stone handling; a sawmill was established in the 19th century. These details place the town’s development in context over several centuries.
