Lovranska Draga is a starting point for hikes towards Medveja and the sea, as well as inland towards Učka. The village combines its location in Učka Nature Park with its own history and local traditions. Alongside the landscape, a prehistoric site, the small Baroque Church of St Michael, and a traditional festive dish all shape the character of Lovranska Draga.

Landscape of the Učka Mountains

Lovranska Draga lies within Učka Nature Park on the eastern slopes of the mountains. Terraced vineyards and meadows define the surroundings, with Učka’s highest peaks in the background. The settlement sits on a steep ridge about 360 metres above sea level and offers views across Kvarner Bay. The village’s landscape brings together its elevated mountain setting and views over the bay.

Hiking trails with different destinations

Hiking trails from Lovranska Draga lead towards Medveja and the sea, as well as inland towards Učka. The village serves as a starting point for hikes through nature. One specific destination is the Slap educational trail: it begins in Lovranska Draga and leads to a waterfall on Učka. The trail passes through a sweet chestnut forest, and information panels provide details about an endemic plant species.

If you are looking for a clear destination on your hike, the Slap educational trail leads to the waterfall. Other trails head towards the coast or inland towards Učka. The surrounding area therefore offers a range of hiking destinations and is not limited to just one type of landscape.

Archaeological site, church and local cuisine

In 1929, prehistoric human remains were discovered at the Oporovina site in the area of Lovranska Draga. Oporovina is considered the first prehistoric site discovered in the Kvarner region. The small Baroque Church of St Michael also stands at the entrance to the settlement; St Michael is the patron saint of Lovranska Draga. The site and the church represent two different aspects of the area’s history: prehistoric finds and its religious heritage.

Cherries and sweet chestnuts are part of Lovranska Draga’s agricultural traditions. A traditional local dish is repa i fažol, a dish of turnips and beans served for the Feast of St Michael on 29 September. Alongside its landscape and hiking trails, local produce and festive cuisine are part of the village’s character.
