Čehići
Accommodation in Čehići
For your trip planning, hiking trail 719 gives Čehići a concrete connection to hiking. The trail’s length, positive elevation gain and route description complement one another, so you can assess the route by several criteria rather than by its number alone. If you also take a hike into account when choosing a place to stay, this gives you a tangible starting point for getting to know the area.
Hiking in Čehići: Route 719
Hiking trail 719 St. Lovreč 2 runs from Čehići over a motorway bridge and along forest and field paths towards the main road between Žbandaj and Sveti Lovreč. The route is 9.9 km long and has a positive elevation gain of 145 m. Length and elevation gain represent two different measurements: the number of kilometres describes the extent of the route, while the positive elevation gain describes its ascent. When comparing it with another hike, you can therefore consider both figures separately and assess them alongside the route description.
Hiking trails in Općina Sveti Lovreč
In the wider destination of Općina Sveti Lovreč, the Put vode circular hiking trail (Istra Trails No. 720) runs through the area. It is 11.2 km long and connects several water sources in the municipality. The circular route starts at the restored town spring in the centre of Sveti Lovreč, near Velika vrata, and returns to the same spring. At 11.2 km, Put vode is 1.3 km longer than trail 719. The descriptions also differ: Put vode is defined by the water sources it connects and its return to the starting point, while trail 719 is described as running from Čehići over a bridge and along forest and field paths towards the main road between Žbandaj and Sveti Lovreč.
Općina Sveti Lovreč is also home to the Puč spring in Vošteni, considered the municipality’s best-known natural water source.
Culture and history of Općina Sveti Lovreč
The Church of St. Martin in Općina Sveti Lovreč has the oldest organ in Istria. Petar Nakić, also known as Pietro Nacchini, created it in 1735; it was restored in 2013. The church also has one of the oldest surviving fresco ensembles in Istria. These include recently restored frescoes in the north and south apses. The organ and frescoes offer different cultural perspectives: for the organ, its creator, year of creation and restoration can be named, while the frescoes are notable for their age in the regional context, the two apses and their recent restoration.
The fortifications of Sveti Lovreč also point to a distinct historical period. In the 14th century, the town walls were extended and reinforced when Sveti Lovreč was the seat of the captains. The fortified ensemble includes the Funtanela Tower, a nearby triangular tower and a bell tower that once served as a defensive tower.
Another layer of history explains the form of the town itself: the circular shape of Sveti Lovreč dates back to a prehistoric hillfort on the hilltop. This allows the settlement’s layout to be distinguished chronologically from the town walls extended in the 14th century: the former refers to the prehistoric origins of the circular shape, while the latter refers to the later reinforcement of the fortifications.
