Skrivena Luka: Bay, Beaches and Lighthouse
Accommodation in Skrivena Luka
Skrivena Luka lies on the southern side of Lastovo and is also known as Portorus. The bay is considered sheltered; its hidden location offers boaters protection from strong winds and rough seas. If you are looking for hotels in Skrivena Luka, exploring the different aspects of the area can help you decide whether the destination suits your plans. The coastline, swimming spots, historic buildings, boat excursions and local cuisine each offer a different focus.
Bay, Lighthouse and History
Struga Lighthouse is located in Skrivena Luka and was built in 1839. It stands 90 metres above sea level at the edge of a steep cliff overlooking the open sea. On its northern side, there are viewpoints and access to the sea through a pine forest. The Church of St Cyprian is a much older historical landmark: it was built in the 11th century on a hill above Skrivena Luka. Chronologically, this takes us from the 11th century to the construction of the lighthouse in 1839; the locations mentioned also differ, with one on a hill and the other at the edge of a cliff.
Beaches and Access
Water conditions and beach type are different factors to consider when choosing a beach. At Mali žal, the shallow water extends about 10 metres from shore; the beach is considered suitable for children and non-swimmers. Kujenčeva ropa, by contrast, is a naturist beach in Skrivena Luka. You can get there by car, bicycle, on foot or by boat. As it may be useful to confirm access options for the season, check which route is suitable for you before your visit.
Boat Excursion and Regional Cuisine
The educational boat excursion offered by Lastovo Islands Nature Park lasts about four hours. On the return trip, it passes through the southern bays and highlights Skrivena Luka and Struga Lighthouse. Snorkelling equipment, swimwear, a towel and water are recommended. As arrangements may change seasonally, check the latest excursion information in advance.
You can also combine an outing with a taste of local cuisine: Pod Maslinu is an excursion destination where you can experience organically grown food associated with the local traditional cuisine. Visitor facilities include Port Rosso, a nautical centre with a Dalmatian konoba, cocktail bar, pier and pebble beach. Konoba Nautica offers local and foreign wines, as well as fish, meat, fruit and vegetables associated with traditional fishing or cultivation; berth services are also available. This gives you a choice between an excursion focused on food and cuisine and distinct dining and nautical offerings.
Information for Boaters
Skrivena Luka is considered one of the safest bays in Lastovo for anchoring. Conditions may vary, so check them before making specific anchoring plans. This perspective on anchoring adds a practical consideration for boaters to the bay’s sheltered location, without replacing the other ways to experience the area.
