Kozarice brings together forest ecology, archaeological traces and the annual Petrovo celebration, along with agricultural themes at OPG Kata Kolarić. Život šume Forest Educational Trail

Život šume is 1.2 kilometres long. The trail was maintained in 2024; if you visit later, you can check its current condition in advance. Its interpretive panels cover forest ecosystems and the relationships between fungi, orchids and forests. The content is intended for the general public and schoolchildren. The route thus combines a specific trail with environmental education. For planning purposes, the stated length gives you a concrete idea of the route. Its ecological focus differs thematically from the archaeological finds associated with Kozarice-Kornjaš.

Archaeology and Annual Petrovo

Kozarice-Kornjaš is an archaeological site with remains from prehistory and the Late Middle Ages. The prehistoric settlement is attributed to the Copper Age Lasinja culture and dated to approximately 4350 to 3900 BC. This dating applies to the prehistoric settlement; the Late Medieval remains belong to a different period. Kornjaš is one of two sites in the Novska area with traces of Copper Age settlement and lies south of the Kozarice–Novi Grabovac road. The road reference locates the site locally, while its classification as one of two sites establishes its wider connection to the Novska area.

Petrovo is celebrated annually in Kozarice in honour of Saints Peter and Paul, both of whom are considered the village’s patron saints. If you plan to travel specifically for this festival, check the event dates for your chosen year and plan your hotel stay accordingly. The festival is therefore an occasion tied to a particular date, while the forest educational trail and archaeology offer ways to focus your visit on an interest in nature or history.

Agricultural Themes and Getting There

OPG Kata Kolarić in Kozarice is part of the local agricultural scene. The farm makes jewellery from ostrich eggshells and produces pasta from ostrich eggs. Both use ostrich eggs as their starting material, but in different forms: one becomes a piece of jewellery, the other a food product. Its activities also include ostrich farming and “school in nature” activities. In the past, the OPG also worked with day-trippers and school groups and took part in exhibitions, fairs and events. These past connections add a historical perspective on working with groups and in event settings to its products and activities.

County road Ž3217 connects Kozarice to the D47 via L33141; the stated length is 3.5 kilometres. You can take this connection into account when planning your journey, alongside your chosen travel theme.
