Gornji Hrastovac: Settlement Pattern and Cultural Landscape
Accommodation in Gornji Hrastovac
Gornji Hrastovac combines a historic rural settlement pattern with protected groups of houses, old cemeteries, and a cultural landscape. You can therefore tailor the focus of your stay to your interest in cultural heritage or landscape.
Historic Settlement Pattern
Gornji Hrastovac is one of the historic settlements of a rural character; the settlement section has PZ status. Two old cemeteries in Gornji Hrastovac are protected as ZPP. A group of single-storey and two-storey houses is classified as E-ZPP; several other houses of the same storey types also have this designation. The three designations concern different elements of the village: the historic settlement section, the cemeteries, and the houses. Cultural heritage is therefore not concentrated in a single building type, but shapes several parts of the village’s appearance.
The village is described as an elongated, road-oriented settlement. The beginning and end of the old settlement area, and the relationship between the built fabric and traditionally cultivated land, are intended to remain legible. When viewing Gornji Hrastovac, the relationship between the houses, the shape of the road, and cultivated areas also matters; the spatial structure is part of its historic character.
Sunja Valley and Cultural Landscape
The Sunja Valley between Gornji Hrastovac and Rakovac is subject to development controls as a valuable landscape. Above Gornji Hrastovac, the hilly area with a cultivated strip extending to the road is classified as an E-ZPP cultural landscape area. The broader area also includes land around MraÄŤaj and nearby ridges. The valley and the hills form distinct spatial reference points: one is described as a landscape between two villages, the other as a cultural landscape above Gornji Hrastovac.
The bridge on the Gornji Hrastovac–Rakovac road is designated as a viewpoint over the Sunja riverbed. The view of the riverbed adds a specific connection to the Sunja to the settlement and cultural landscape themes.
Road and Travel Planning
The connection to Srednja Meminska is also part of local orientation: a 400-metre section of the unclassified road between the two villages was renewed. This improved access for public services, emergency assistance, utility companies, and residents. As road conditions can change, check the latest conditions before travelling.
