Municipality of Lasinja: Kupa, Culture and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Municipality of Lasinja
Lasinja lies on the right bank of the Kupa in a lowland landscape. Here, the river begins its gentle course towards its mouth. Two aspects therefore shape the area for trip planning: the river landscape with its cycling routes, and local history, reflected in the Ethno Museum, churches and archaeology. If you are looking for a hotel in the Municipality of Lasinja, these themes can help guide your choice of destination.
Cycling between the Kupa and Ciglana
Routes 48 and 50 combine to form a 14-kilometre cycling route that starts at Lasinja’s central square. It passes through meadows and picturesque countryside to the banks of the Kupa. There are several bathing spots along this stretch of riverbank. If the river landscape is your main consideration when choosing a route, this offers a specific option to consider.
Route 49 is 14.1 kilometres long and starts and ends in Lasinja. It crosses a lowland landscape and a stretch of forest on its way to Lake Ciglana near the village of Crna Draga. Of the route, 12.8 kilometres are paved and 1.3 kilometres are gravel. At around 14 kilometres, both options are similar in length, but their described destinations differ: routes 48 and 50 focus on meadows and the banks of the Kupa, while Route 49 features a stretch of forest and the lake. Check the GPX information and surface conditions before setting off.
Ethno Museum, Monastery and Churches
The Lasinja Ethno Museum is housed in a traditional wooden building, built and furnished to preserve the memory of local traditional architecture. Exhibits include men’s and women’s folk costumes, traditional furniture and household items. Visitors can visit the museum by request, so arrange your visit in advance.
Since 2007, Lasinja has been home to the cloistered monastery of the Daughters of the Heart of Jesus, known as the White Carmel, and considered the only monastery of this order in Croatia. The monastery complex includes the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. One area is intended for worshippers who wish to pray together with the nuns; another is reserved exclusively for the nuns.
The parish church also has its own history: after the war, it was built at a new location. On 28 October 2000, it was dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua and the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace.
Archaeology and Local Cultural Life
The Lasinja culture is an Eneolithic culture dating from 4300 to 3950 BC. It is found in parts of Croatia, northern Bosnia, Slovenia, the Austrian regions of Styria and Carinthia, and Transdanubian Hungary. During small-scale, non-professional investigations at Talijanovo brdo in 1928 and 1929, the finds consisted mostly of pottery fragments and stone material from the Copper Age; these finds are mainly attributed to the Lasinja culture. Finds from the VuÄŤedol culture were also discovered. The investigations were not documented.
The KUD Antun Klasinc in Lasinja has folk dance, tambura, children’s and tambura school sections. Local cultural life therefore encompasses both traditional dance and music, as well as activities for children; these sections offer a glimpse into the association’s focus.
The Kupa as Part of Your Trip Planning
Fishing tourism has also developed along this stretch of the Kupa. A trip in a traditional wooden boat is also recommended for exploring the river around Lasinja. This allows you to consider the river landscape, cycling routes and cultural history as different focal points for planning your trip.
