The following nature and culture highlights relate to the host municipality of Duga Resa and offer a range of themes to help you plan your trip.

Mrežnica: water and landscape

The Mrežnica is 64 kilometres long and has 93 travertine barriers. In the municipality of Duga Resa, activities on the river include swimming, rafting, canoeing and kayaking; local conditions may vary. For a distinctly summery swimming experience, the Mrežnički Brig excursion area offers swimming in the Mrežnica below waterfalls. Tennis and beach volleyball are also available there. Check the current facilities at the bathing area before your trip.

You can also experience the river landscape on foot. A riverside path offers views of Gornji mlin reflected in the water. On Vinica, the Šetalište Tušmer tourist trail is ideal for walking and enjoying the scenery. Facilities and interpretation along the trail may continue to develop. If you want to include a climb, you can ascend the 321-metre-high Vinica hill from the riverbank.

Cycling routes between rivers and meadows

Bicycle Route 5, “Između zelenih rijeka”, is listed as a 25-kilometre circuit. Its surface is 78 percent asphalt and 22 percent gravel. The Mrežnički Brig excursion area, next to Camp Slapić, is recommended as a starting point. These details provide practical guidance for planning your ride without making the recommended starting point mandatory. Check the current signs and route conditions before setting off.

Bicycle Route 6, “Kroz livade i voćnjake”, runs between the Mrežnica and the Dobra through river valleys, wooded hills and broad meadows. The two routes can be distinguished by their different descriptions: Route 5 is described by its circuit, distance and surface, while Route 6 focuses on the landscapes along the way. This can help you choose a ride based on what matters most to you when planning.

Cultural sites and historic places

Archaeological finds along the banks of the Mrežnica reflect prehistoric settlement and the presence of Romans, Illyrians and early Croats. Religious buildings classified as immovable cultural heritage include the Church of St Anthony of Padua, the Church of St Peter the Apostle in Sveti Petar Mrežnički, and the Chapel of St Roch in Petrakovo Brdo. Zagradci is also home to the Chapel of Saints Fabian and Sebastian. These sites add a historical perspective on the municipality to its nature and river themes.

The medieval town of Novigrad na Dobri is open to visitors; its round defensive tower offers views towards Mount Klek. As restoration work is underway there, check current access before visiting. Another historic stop is in Leskovac Barilović: Bicycle Route 5 passes through the village, where the Baroque parish church of St Joseph was built in 1785.
